Bonhoff
Hi all, As threatened previously, this'll be my contribution to the GB. Picked up off an auction site a couple of years back and my vacform cherry being popped by building a Rareplane Seafire 47 before I got to this point. The canopy hasn't yellowed on this one! Initial cutting out of parts done in the garden, with what I would like to think is the most appropriate tipple for the task in hand... Now for some trimming and filing. Johnson
Great choice! What is the kit like? Will you need lots of extras? I made a Rare Planes vacform ages ago and enjoyed it immensely, so I was considering finding one of these. Cheers,
Bonhoff
I tend to do my Spitfires as in-flight models so the undercarriage isn't an issue - Best spares sources for me are the SH late Griffon engined kits as you have large and small tailplanes, a variety of cannon barrels, rudders, 5 bladed and contra-props plus sometimes a choice of exhausts so I should be able to gather the parts together. Bonhoff
Some progress! Cockpit put together, pilot currently being painted up (He's going to have a shock, he came out of Airfix's Fokker Eindekker!) and once he's finished I can close up the fuselage. Rather than mess about with the vacform tailplanes, I've pinched a pair of Mk.22 tailplanes and adjusted the roots by adding plastic so they sit correctly once glued on. The dimples that pass for the exhaust stacks have been cut out and a backing strip added to take a pair of exhausts from my Special Hobby Mk.22 kit / spares box (Since augmented with an SH Spitfire Mk.21 as well, all the same sprues apart from the fuselage), I'll rob an Airfix PR.XIX for the propeller, I'll then use an SH contra-prop on the PR.XIX, clip the wingtips and add invasion stripes, I should have a pastiche of the preserved "Planes of Fame" Spitfire PS890 as a result, but that's for another time. Need to get a wriggle on now. IanJ
Bonhoff
Bit more progress, but I doubt it'll be finished by the deadline..... Undersides of the wings attached - I've used a length of N-Gauge rail as a wing spar, the black spots are actually a CA based powder bonding system but the name escapes me at the moment. Tops of wings attached along with the tailplanes, some gaps to the wing fillets that need attention. Kind regards IanJ Edited July 6, 2020 by Bonhoff Duplicate picture!
Bonhoff
As I said before, it was unlikely to be completed before the deadline but it's come on a lot further than I expected. It's required a whole load of filling and sanding and consequently a lot of the panel lines have gone AWOL. I now need to take the decision whether to sand the rest off and rescribe the major ones or ignore the missing ones.... Cannon barrels and air filter intake from the Special Hobby spares box, prop is Airfix PRXIX - The canopy and behind the seat need further fettling but all in all I've enjoyed the build so far. Kind regards IanJ

Bonhoff
And she's done - Brush painted with Humbrol and Revell acrylics, decals are a mix of Special Hobby roundels and Avieology serials, instructions say that the Spiteful had a gloss finish so I've given it another coat of klear. Made a bit of a hash of the canopy but once again, like the Rareplane Seafire 47, it was an enjoyable build - If you've not tried one, do please have a go.
