Steve 1602
The second Spitfire from the Eduard dual combo kit. I’m intending to build this one in the colours of Czech Sqn Ldr Otto Smik. Eduard list some uncertainty in the markings so any steers/ thoughts will be helpful as this one develops. Steve
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Hello Steve.. Quick question if I may. Why does the spitfire have different codes on each side, Starboard 9N*B and Port 9N*R ? Dennis Edited April 7, 2020 by Corsairfoxfouruncle

Dennis Hi Dennis, the Eduard instructions say that it’s not certain if the codes were 9N*B or R so they’ve provided both. I guess I’ll have to make a choice downstream! Steve 1602
I’ve done a bit of online searching today into codes for this aircraft and also downloaded “Squadrons - Spitfire XVIe - the British’. Opinion seems divided, but 9N*R is listed in the book, so I think I’ll plan to go with that
Steve 1602
Not great quality images but in searching for information on this Spitfire I found this site on 127 Sqn. http://www.127squadron.co.uk/page6.html?LMCL=MRD5zD Some of the images are available elsewhere at higher resolution but I thought it was a nice snapshot into the men behind the machines. It also has an image (the only one I’ve found) of the two-tone (red/white?) spinner that Eduard have depicted for this aircraft.

Steve 1602
I’ve switched attention away from the low back Spitfire XVI in order to bring this one up to the same build stage. Cockpit has been the focus today. Most of it is ready to be fitted together once I’ve attacked the PE details! Hopefully more progress to show later. Steve 1602
That’s the cockpit pretty much finished and ready to fit into the fuselage. I’ve just taped it together to check the fit and it all seems to line up. Next job is fixing it all together and adding the rudder pedals - it should then be ready to button the fuselage up! Steve 1602
Managed to finish off and get the fuselage together. Another good fit although I had to do a little bit more adjustment of the cockpit than I had to for the low back. I had one self-imposed drama and forgot to put in the housing for the tail wheel before glueing everything together. I had to split the lower fuselage join and wiggle it into place - a major facepalm moment! Here are the two of them together. Steve

Steve 1602
A little more progress. The airframe is pretty much complete now and seams addressed. A few more parts to fit and then I hope to be able to prime this tomorrow and see how it looks.
Steve 1602
Finally.... all transparencies masked and ready for primer! Steve
Steve 1602
Primer on yesterday and overall I’m pretty happy with the finish. The seam immediately in front of the canopy needs some additional work, but nothing too drastic and I’m pretty happy with how the engine cowling is looking. A bit of a tidy up and recovery of some detail (also not helped by flipping both this and the other cowling when they were wet!) overall getting close to painting! Steve 1602
Along with its companion Spitfire I have addressed the seams that were still visible and re-primed the model. I’ve polished the surface to remove any roughness and I’m pretty happy with how it’s looking. As with the low-back Spit, I’m going to let the primer fully cure and complete the remaining sub-assemblies before I get on with the camo colours. Steve 1602
Evening all. As for the other Spitfire, all sub assemblies have been primed and painted and it’s all ready for the main painting to start. exhausts have been given some attention and I think they are looking ok. Steve 1602
A bit of hiatus, but back on track. I’m playing about with my new airbrush so want to try and learn some new techniques. I’ve had a go at some pre-shading and modulation before I apply the camo colours. Not sure how it will turn out but if you don’t try....! Any tips welcome Steve
Steve 1602
Some more progress this evening. I painted the invasion stripes, the spinner turned white and the prop was masked and painted. I also masked the yellow wing leading edges, so it’s all ready for camouflage. Steve

Thanks Alan 🙏 The kits are really nice to build. I would definitely recommend them and will probably build some more in the future - definitely worth buying. Steve 1602
That’s the spinner done and ready for a pin wash and assembly. I quite like the red/white colour. It certainly stands out in a crowd! Steve
