Bill Livingston
Wow... these two are looking great! I can understand why you couldn't resist finishing this stage! Really looks strange with those roundels on 21-V... An interesting pair.
Steve 1602
Thanks Bill. I thought Eduard might have got it wrong with the upper wing roundels as the proportion looks a little out for the Type C1 Roundel. When I looked at the photo of the actual aircraft however it looks To be right. To me it looks as if a type c Roundel has had a yellow ring added, but stayed within the original circumference - this reduces the Proportion of blue and makes everything else look a little odd. It certainly makes the two schemes look quite different to one another. Steve
Steve 1602
I didn't get anything done on the modelling front yesterday and made the most of the lovely weather instead. I have managed to get some work done today however (in between hedge trimming!). I rubbed the airframe down with an anti-static cloth to remove any dust (or anything I could see), and then sealed in the decals with another coat of Vallejo gloss varnish. And then gave it a liberal application of Flory Models Dark wash - time to let that dry and then start the process of removal before sealing it in with a matt coat. Bill Livingston
Great progress. I am about at the same stage and I'm slightly nervous of the wash... I'm looking forward to seeing the model after the wash has been removed. (This is such a good group build...!)
Steve 1602
Thanks Bill! In my best Karate Kid homage.... "Wash on, wash off"... not quite wax It's worked broadly as I wanted, but was a bit stubborn to remove in some areas - I think that's down to my gloss finish and I think a higher shine finish would make life a bit easier. Nonetheless, all done and ready for the matt coat. I may even manage to get it on its wheels this evening! Steve 1602
Just a quick update from tonight - wheels on! I popped the cowling off (this had only been tacked on with PVA) and added the exhausts (This definitely seems easier than masking the exhausts), I also added the radiator flaps and removed the cockpit masking. I also added the PE to the cockpit door - I’m not sure my eyes will recover! 😆 some small bits and bobs and final weathering to go and then I’ll be calling this one done! The PE on the door is crazy small, but looks good when fitted. Edited May 27, 2020 by Steve 1602 Typo
Steve 1602
Here is the finished model! I really enjoyed building both of these Eduard Spitfires! A number of firsts for me with this: First build on Britmodeller First group build anywhere! First Eduard 1/48 Spits (there will be more!) First use of a new airbrush First use of Vallejo model air paints I have really enjoyed the group build experience and all of the interactions and support from other BMers! I've learned loads! Thank you Patrice @TEMPESTMK5 for hosting such an excellent group build (so good that I'm going to try and fit in a couple more before the end!) and thanks to everyone who has viewed, liked or commented on my posts. Anyway, on to the model! Steve Spitfire XVIe TD341 443 Squadron RCAF Uetersen airfield, Germany, August 1945 And the pair together!
