DaveJL
Hello all, Here's my entry for this GB - Eduard's 1/48 Spitfire MK.IXc 'late version. Only my second 1/48 Spitfire and first Eduard offering. Will be marking it as MJ296 of 312 (Czechoslovak) Squadron during August 1944. Flown by F/LT Otto Smick, who was credited with 8.5 'kills' and 3 V-1s downed by September 1944. He was shot down in this aircraft on 3rd September 1944 over Holland, safely making it back to England. Sadly he was later killed after being shot down on 28th November 1944. Extras - not much other than a Brassin top cowl and AML vinyl masks: Paint scheme and markings: Am I right in saying the camouflage colours are Ocean Grey/ Dark Green over Medium Sea Grey? Have the two Lancasters and another entry for the Navy GB to finish so will be a while before I get cracking with this. Dave
Christer A
I'll keep my fingers crossed that the Brassin Cowl fits... In any case, it's a wonderful model. Have a lot of fin with it!

Do check if the replacement cowling is not too long. The early release was, I've understood.

That is correct, and my resin engine cover fits OK. 😷 The mask is just for resin dust.
DaveJL
Thanks! Will be sure to dry fit it before attaching. alt-92
Sorry mate, I was having a word play with that quote but it looks like either way would work. Maybe there's an answer in the All Spit Questions thread*. *on a whim, I'd say validate the production date with the introduction of the low-back XVI XII & VIII Spit. DaveJL
Finally made a start on this today. As per the norm, started with the cockpit, namely the IP. The kit etch is really nice: Then on with the cockpit itself. Again, lovely detail and builds up easily. Painted and given a wash to grime it up a bit: Popped in and fuselage closed up: As this is being built alongside my Su-33, I thought it would be good to do a size comparison... Either the Spit was really small or the Flanker is really big More soon. Dave

DaveJL
Fiddled about with the resin top cowl today. The length is right but was bit of a faff to get sitting on top of the exhaust stacks. I test fitted the kit parts and they fitted much more snugly. Can live with the small seam line to clean up, an easy task for some Mr Surfacer: Not a very exciting update I admit! More soon. DaveJL
More done on this kit, and it's pretty much just falling together. A lovely job by Eduard. Anyway, wings are on, stabilisers, radiators and front intake: The fit is pretty much perfect, just a touch of Mr Surfacer here and there to clean up seam lines and a spot of wet and dry to clean up some glue seepage Does anyone know what rudder was fitted to ML296? Eduard suggest it could be either and I haven't been able to find a definitive answer: Not much left to do before priming. Dave
DaveJL
Flying along (pardon the pun!). Just the canopy to add and mask off now before painting. This kit is a delight to build. Beside my Airfix Hurricane: More soon. Dave
DaveJL
That's her ready for the paint shop: Sub assemblies: Beside the Airfix Hurricane: Could anyone tell me how wide the sky coloured band just fore of the vertical stabiliser would be on the model? More soon. Dave
Steve 1602
Looking good👍🏻 I think it’s 18 inches which comes in at something like 9.525 mm in 1:48 scale Steve

DaveJL
Primer on, rough pre shade done and I've added the sky for the fuselage band along with the yellow leading edges of the wings. Just to mask those up before the camouflage goes down: More soon. Dave
DaveJL
More done this weekend. First up was the Ocean Grey. A few light coats then on with the AML mask. Some areas needed a few blu-tack tidy ups and some tape to hold the vinyl in place: Note that the AML instructions have the colours back to front - the area they say should be Dark Green should be Grey. The green went on next, 2 light coats, then off came the masking: Happy with that. Hoping to get it glossed tomorrow in preparation for decals. More soon. Bill Livingston
Another fabulous Spitfire build. This is SUCH a good group build... and some fantastic modellers from which we will all learn.

The underside roundels covered the outermost .303 ejection ports so I coated the decals in Microset and once cured, it was a case of carefully cutting along the contour of the ejection port. Propellor is also done: Beside my in progress VB: Hopefully will get the panel wash and some weathering on over the weekend. Dave
DaveJL
Calling this one done. Panel wash went on last night, then it was just a case of removing the excess, some oil weathering, flat coat, landing gear etc added and some final weathering to give this: I left the cockpit access door slightly ajar as I wanted the 'kill' tally to be seen. The weathering products used: More pictures in the RFI thread here Thanks to all who commented on/ followed the build. Lovely kit by Eduard. Valkyrie
What a brilliant result. Like @Steve 1602 and you I’m building this one and glad I have you guys to follow. I was going to pose door open but now you highlight the kill markings would be hidden I can still change my build at this stage. Also put falls of the cowling and the after market masks which I also got for mine, great tips and again great built, its lovely. I think we were separated at birth as I realised we were both also building an SU-33 at the same time as these too. Great build great thread, well done
