Whitley mk1 turrets scratchbuild

Hi everyone,

Just wondering and hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. I am working on a 1/48 Whitley and need to fabricate both front and rear turrets. The kit comes with clear vacform moulded in a sort of shape but that is it. I am sure there must be a tutorial on the internet that I could look at but I can't find anything. Is there anybody out there who could help?

TIA Ken

Off-hand, I don't recall the type/manufacturer of the Whitley nose and tail turrets, but if you have that information available, doing an internet search for them might bring results. Your best bet is to wait until one of our Whitley experts sees your post and replies; I'm sure they can give you the references or point you in the right direction. I seem to recall the power-operated  nose and tail turrets were made by Nash Thompson, but I don't remember which marks had them, and you didn't state which mark you were building. Welcome to Britmodeller, BTW!

I seem to recall the early Whitleys had Armstrong Whitworth manual (i.e. not power operated) turrets similar to those fitted to the Anson I   - so maybe use one of those as a base to start from? I'm afraid I don't know if there were any differences between the Anson and Whitley turrets.

If you want some 1:48 Anson turrets, pm me. I have a pair of Classic Airframes Ansons that are to be built as Australian civil aircraft (one East-West Airlines, the other I haven't yet decided) so I won't be needing the turrets. Yours for the cost of postage.

Thanks for the offer Admiral Puff. I'll take you up on your offer if it's still available.

Yep, still available. I'll confirm postage when the PO opens again on Tuesday and get back to you. Can you let me know an address, please, via pm.
