Prussian Blue
Hi, I’m sure this has been asked before but I’m just about to finish a Dora Wings 1/48 Me109a and I’m not sure what colour the wing tip landing lights should be. Can anyone assist please?
Rolls-Royce
The wingtip lights are navigation lights, and they are red on the left wing and blue (nowadays green) on the right. Edited April 6, 2020 by Rolls-Royce
72modeler
Bf-109's had clear covers over the colored navigation lights- port being red and starboard being green, as stated above. See the link to a well-known restored Bf-109G-2 for what they look like. Black Knight
The 109 A to E series had wing tip lights which were like bumps in a notch on the wing tips, about 1/5 chord from the leading edge. Unlike the G series photo in the above link.
72modeler
You are, of course, correct! The variants prior to the Bf-109G had the nav lights proud of the outer edge of the wingtips. I apologize to @Prussian Blue for the misinformation. Ich bin so dumm! Mike
Prussian Blue
Thanks so much gentleman for the assistance. I’ll post some photos of the kit once it’s complete- which will hopefully be today.
Jochen Barett
I found this pic of the 109 E in Munich https://b-domke.de/AviationImages/Bf109/7658.html blue or green? You be the judge.
malpaso
I believe I have read on several occasions about different planes that blue glass was sometimes used for starboard ID lamps as the incandescent bulbs had a very yellow tinge - blue + yellow = green Not entirely convinced myself as that colour mix is true for primary pigment colours, but yellow isn’t a primary light colour. Starfighter
nNot a 109, but i did have at one time the glass fitting for the starboard wing trailing edge light from one of our Phantom FGR 2's, and that had blue glass in it, but when illuminated it did look green. HTH.
