Sherman Firefly Vc

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

it's been quite a while since I posted anything on BM. I've finally sorted out a new photo hosting source after the PB debacle (thanks to the very useful articles posted elsewhere on BM) and thought I'd share a few things I've been working on.

This is the old 1/35 Dragon Sherman Firefly VC  Kit no. 6182. It's built OOB apart from the decals which came from a Bison set. The kit was ok apart from those tracks! They turned out ok in the end but with 3 pieces per link I was almost losing the will to live by the time I'd finished them. Never again!

Hope you like it.

This is one of the few Dragon armor kits that I own. Probably is also one of my favorite variants of the Sherman. Mine is in the to be built stash which probably consists of about 300 plus

kits.  When I get around to mine I hope it turns out as well as yours. Very nice.

Great build and fantastic finish.

Never tire of seeing models of the tank that took out Wittman and no criticism of your build whatsoever, but the 17pdr barrel gun in the Dragon kit is approx 4.5mm too long, and once you know it, you can't not see it.

Brilliant looking Firefly, excellent paintwork and weathering.

Built the same kit myself last year, However I cheated when it came to the tracks and replaced them with an inexpensive set from AFV club, life's to short for those multipart tracks, imo!

Great work

Hi Ant,

Thanks for the comment although I think ignorance was bliss! It's like you said, now I've seen it, I can't unsee it 😞

I'm just going to have to live with it as it will take too much effort to cut it down and try to rematch the paint/weathering again.

It'll just have to be our secret :-0

I've got a few more Fireflies in the stash and, following your observation I pulled them out and did a bit of a comparison........

Top barrel is from the later Mk 1c Hybrid kit, 6228 and is noticeably shorter whereas the bottom barrel is from the CyberHobby 9104 Ic Hybrid kit and is the same length.

The CyberHobby version is going to be turned into a 60lb rocket firing version but I'm now going to have to add a new barrel to the list of changes required.

Hi Bandit,

I was exactly the same, luckily I read it before painting my kit, luckily there is no need to replace the barrel, just cut off the muzzle brake, shorten the barrel at the muzzle end and reattach the muzzle brake, its a 2 minute job.

Hope this helps.

Very nice Firefly, probably my favourite variant.

I did the Dragon kit too & feel your pain with the tracks. Was too much of a cheapskate to buy aftermarket tracks!

I am very lucky because I had this conversation the other day on a thread on Britmoddeller and Carl @FG2Si said that he had some rubber ones from a another kit that he didn't use and I could have them for postage from Canada.  So as I type they are on the way from the other side of the pond.

Britmodellers are a helpful community and I would like to say thanks publicly to Carl for his amazing offer and thank you to @Antphillips for his comments about the gun.
