neil5208
Good luck with the Hustler, did this scheme back in May. its a reasonable kit but need a fair bit of filler in places and don't worry about the cockpits unless the hatches are open. PhantomBigStu
Got this for a fiver as loose bits possibly incomplete 2 years ago, as it happens it was complete bar the clear parts, which I had spare thanks to a previous attempt over 3 years ago. That failed as I tried to use filler to build it gear up, this time with the help of plasticard that be doable
PhantomBigStu
Well I did bother with the inside before it was closed up, anyway now put to one side whilst the miliput hardens.
PhantomBigStu
Given up on the idea of doing it in the green SEA scheme, couldn’t settle on subs for the obscure greens, so will now be in the tan scheme, but there’s bigger news, having suffered a double disappointment over a big build in the Heller GB this is now a double feature of supersonics bombers
PhantomBigStu
After a scare involving a missing engine piece and one of the most incredible days of English football yesterday the bone is underway
PhantomBigStu
Bones all together and sanding in progress, much easier task than on the b58
PhantomBigStu
Sanded the upper seams, now for the less simple underside, bomb bay was not simple, kit doors were not usable in the up position and had to cut 4 different widths of card to fit.
PhantomBigStu
Lazy Sunday spent sanding, and finally got the first coat of actual paint on, going for the 3 tone camouflage pattern of gunship grey, olive drab and euro1 grey
neil5208
FYI the mould camera just in front of the bomb bay was only fitted to the proto type aircraft, should coming off for a service aircraft.
PhantomBigStu
Had some issues but now the underside camo is all done, now for the topside
PhantomBigStu
Topside done, now for the pilots and exhausts
PhantomBigStu
This became an absolute nightmare in terms of the canopy fit and the exhausts. Lots of sanding which wiped out the frame lines. But a barracuda mask should hopefully save it. Now to sand the topside of the exhausts, hopefully won’t be 10 months before the next update….least the hustler (and others) pictured got finished in the interim) Edited September 18, 2021 by PhantomBigStu
PhantomBigStu
Really paying for earlier issues and decisions, exhausts were a real pain and looks like I’ll have to paint the windows black as the was too much previous work on the canopy and it looks woeful. But decal ready now Edited September 30, 2021 by PhantomBigStu
PhantomBigStu
Decided to use the masks to do the canopy seals, was a mistake got some cleanup work to do but decals are on
Bandsaw Steve
Some folks say Concorde, others the F14 Tomcat. Some say Spitfire Mark….whatever… but I think the Bone is the best looking aircraft ever! 😀 Gotta love that shape!

Concorde is top of the list for me but the B-1B is definitely on my short list of the most beautiful aircraft ever. It's bigger than it looks too, which in part is a testament to how sleek the shape is! I was lucky enough to see one do a flyover in an airshow in the UK. Gorgeous and also very, very loud. I have Revell's 1/48 version in the stash. Haven't plucked up the courage to tackle it yet. I hear the fit is very challenging particularly around the sub-assemblies that make up the front, middle and back of the fuselage.
PhantomBigStu
Possibly the last update for some time (or just a few days whilst it’s Matt coated), trying to figure out what sensor fit I need to scratch is proving difficult, have found pics of a 3 tone aircraft without any underneath but no date and serial number attached, maybe should just accept it give the kit has well known issues I’ve not addressed.
PhantomBigStu
Been a bit out of action due to injury, finally finished the Matt coat and glossed the windows. Would just be case of adding the various aerials and probes but a couple of days after the last update I knocked it off the bench and broke the tail tip off, somewhere on the floor of the room but not in a fit state for a search yet. Edit: help has been donated and we found the bit so should be done later Edited October 19, 2021 by PhantomBigStu
Bandsaw Steve
Looking good mate, but then again it’s a B1 so it was always going to look good! 👍
NoSG0
Good job! I can not imagine brush painting something that big. Good that you are sticking with it.
PhantomBigStu
Cheers guys, got the tail sorted but scratching the 6 nose probes is quite a task for tommorow as the bases will have to be 12 very short lengths of staples stuck together with 6 longer lengths on top, a bit fiddly Edited October 19, 2021 by PhantomBigStu
PhantomBigStu
Finished, not the best pics but my setups not suited to such a large build

Back in the Saddle
It was worth the perseverance - a great looking aircraft!
