Fernando
Hi, gentlemen, I am perfectly aware of the latest doctrine regarding the colour differences between Mitsubishi- and Nakajima-built A6M. My question is: would a Type 22 A6M3 have been built by Mitsubishi or Nakajima? Or by any of the two manufacturers? I am thinking of "UI-106", finished entirely in Gray-Green (so the trick of the rear fuselage camouflage "ramp" feature doesn't work!) Thank you for your attention, Fernando, locked up in Buenos Aires
Seawinder
According to this website: https://www.pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/a6m/tech.html all A6M3s, both Models 32 and 22, were built by Mitsubishi.
michael_hase
Hi Frenando, I am working on this topic as well during our "shut-down" here.... According to the files I have access to, the Model 32 and Model 22 only were bult by Mitsibishi but I will cross-check this later. Nakajima continued to buld the Model 21 durung that time, externally only recognizable by the longer spinner and the white outllines of the Honomaru in case you have obe only been painted in the "ame-iro" camouflage. Best regards / Gruß Michael
MDriskill
My references agree. Nakajima transitioned straight from A6M2 to A6M5 production.
Fernando
Thank you gentlemen. I had pinpointed A6M3 Type 22 production to 560 machines by Mitsubishi, but at least one source added "... and some by Nakajima", which had puzzled me.
