Adam Poultney
This will be my build for the GB, I picked this up at the RIAT last year and have been looking forward to building it. Sadly I couldn't see any way to build a V Bomber for this group build so I'll have to just build a Spitfire. I plan to paint the silver scheme and do this straight out the box. Might also pick up my Eduard 1/72 Spitfire and one of my unfinished Airfix Mk1s again (although I think the Airfix Mk1 is past the 25% mark, oh well it won't have its own thread). Adam Poultney
A box of other Spitfire bits (all 1/72) that might show up here or there in the GB
Peter Roberts
You've inspired me to do the bubble top next to the spined XIV I'm doing. Look forward to seeing this one Adam PR

This is my 12th spitfire kit, including the ones in that box of spitfire bits and my second or third ever kit, which is a very questionably built spitfire.
Adam Poultney
I was planning on doing this straight out the box...... But there's no seatbelts in the box.... Into the cart on Hannants it goes along with that nice new Trumpeter vulcan
Adam Poultney
This is the scheme I've chosen, I'd prefer not to paint camouflage as I find the masking quite tedious, plus I don't have a silver spitfire among the now 12 (8 finished) that I have. Box contents: Decals as always from Airfix look to be pretty good The moulding quality appears spot on with this kit, although I have seen that some of the early batches were short shot often so anyone who got one shortly after release should probably check the kit before building it. I don't like how crowded this sprue is, I have a feeling some parts might be awkward to remove because of that. Separately bagged clear parts Building begins A disappointing start here, the first part I removed from the sprue cracked as I removed it. Annoying, but nothing I can't fix. I hope the kit isn't all brittle and this was just an error on my part. I built a few subassemblies from the cockpit, these will all get painted seperatly before being assembled, I find the cockpits in Spitfires to be the motivational bottleneck to my many builds, too many parts that are best painted separately. Since I plan to add etch belts, I can't get much further than painting these components until they arrive- who knows how long that will be amid this virus lockdown and Easter bank holiday delaying things. Now this really is my kind of kit! You've got to make some mods! Simple ones but still, cutting up kits is something I love doing. The wings are moulded as the standard tipped ones, but this kit represents Spitfires with clipped wings, so you need to cut along a rather handy panel line (already started scoring it with my knife here) to accommodate this. Clear wingtip parts are provided. Nice and easy. For the B scheme in the kit, the silver one, the tail needs a small modification. That aircraft had an enlarged rudder, and the tail itself was sightly shorter for this to fit. Thankfully there is another rather handy panel line to cut along at the top (this is before I removed the part).
Adam Poultney
No progress tonight as I've been working on my Eduard 1/72 Spitfire HF Mk.VIII. I did play a bit of War Thunder and fly out in a new spitfire I just unlocked, although it's not a MK.XIV Having taken a pretty bad beating to the engine and trying to limp back to a friendly airfield, a G55 decided to remove a wing from my Spitfire. Unfortunately for the pilot, there wasn't enough altitude to bail out and the aircraft went into the ground inverted. 4 2

Johnson
Another one I must follow (I have one lurking somewhere in the stash...) Best wishes for the build Adam, looking forward to tagging along.
Adam Poultney
I'm looking forward to continuing this, I placed my order containing the etch belts last night (plus two vulcans, a mossie and who knows what else) so shouldn't be too long until this gets some work done

Adam Poultney
Trumpeter ones (oh and the Cyberhobby 1/200 one I ordered a few days ago that I forgot about).... definitely spent more than is reasonable for a teenage college student in minimum wage for one week 😂 And well..... I printed out a few copies of Vulcan B1 plans in various scales, and if you've seen my previous vulcan builds (or pretty much any of by V Bomber builds) you'll know I'm incapable of building them straight out the box with no mods or corrections. I've not ventured into resin cockpits and stuff, generally I don't see too much point in superdetailing the interior, but it certainly sounds fun- etch on my 1/72 Eduard spitfire was both fun and horrendous in equal parts
Adam Poultney
Well my Hannants order arrived...... And that means etch First bit of that horrific etch stuff is on, I love and hate it in equal parts. Anyone want to place any bets on how many times I knock that part off? The seatbelts are prepainted, so they'll be going on after everything's painted. Also in that order was a vulcan, or well two but that's for next month when the total number of whole orbits of our nearest star I've lived increases by one. Same with the mossie. But one vulcan and another that's not arrived yet will probably be quite a distraction from this build.... Oops

Haha yes sounds about right No progress yet- remote college work has started up again and I'm building a Vulcan as well so not much time for this build. I really want to get on with it but looks like it might be a while until I get a chance to do so.
Peter Roberts
Adam, you are a braver man than me Gunga Din - I baulked at that bit of etch and used the kit part. Well done, nice start with the etch. PR
Adam Poultney
Finally found time to do this in between college work, actual work, other projects, family birthdays and so on...
Adam Poultney
Etch seatbelts.... Definitely the most enjoyable part of any build trying to get them to stay in place and not get knocked off or unglued..... Fabric seatbelts are a thing for modelling right? After a late night modelling session- probably later than it should have been- I had a complete cockpit. I should probably not be up at 4am building models, but hey at least it's not like I've got to be anywhere at the minute 😂 This morning (well afternoon, but what's even the difference anymore? I think mornings come at the end of the day now....) I got the cockpit installed in the fuselage halves. It's a pretty good fit so far. Probably not going to be much more on this today, I'll be trying to plough through the mountain of college work pilling up that I need to do... Or at least that's what I'm telling myself now.

Johnson
As alt-92 said! Very nice. And I have one in the stash which I'd really like to model as 2 Sqns's NM821, 01-L, 'FOCHINELL'*, if anyone ever does the decals (or I make them). *Ancient Scottish battle cry according to Alfred Price. I wonder what it means? Pat will know @JOCKNEY

JOCKNEY
I think its the traditional "old scots" exclamation north of the border when reaching for your favourite single malt only to find the bottle is empty ! 😠 Cheers Pat 1
Adam Poultney
Another Spitfire just sneaking in here, not for the GB but it's a spitfire still Anyway, some building and searching for lost clear parts later (I found them, but not without heavy use of muttered ancient Scottish battle cries): And my new filler finally arrived! I can fix seams decently again 3
Back in the Saddle
I’ve never tried ppp before, is it good stuff to have around? I’ve seen it mentioned a few times in build threads, but never knew what it was!
