Zvezda Mig-31 1/72

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Darn, this kit was very basic and very crude. There were lots of sanding, filling and pin marks however, it was fun tackling them as I had free times due to lockdown. I did some basic riveting to add that subtle details, and for painting, it was bit mix and match and eyeball with the aircraft ref. While building I lost a pair of R-33 if anyone has a spare please do let me know. I did some weathering soft pastel and airbrushing brown over grey. So here it, thank you for looking, cheers

Many thanks

Wow that is a cracking job of a formidable looking aircraft.

I love the texture and mottled effect - it really helps make the surface colour look interesting. Can I ask - did you achieve that with pre-shading, or weathering, or some other method?

PS - @Mark4700 - I love your profile pic! 😁

Thanks Buddy,

To be honest, I stop seeing paint guide on the instruction sheets, instead check on the interweb, find the image or ref you want to work on and eye ball the paint to it. So it always mix and match of the colors. I did some little pre shade, just to have an Idea where to post shade it, once I paint the aircraft I would use a little ot darker shades upto you and paint over each panel, that way it give some texture and I would dilute brown color like a lot like water then post shade it and apply more where you want that dirty rusty feeling and after all it is done, I would use a normal water color and make the panel lines, hope this help

Yeah you two have cracking profile pictures

Cheers

Very nice! I know a modeler who tackled this kit and said that he sanded it so much that he sanded it all the way back to a Mig-23 by the time he felt it was ready for paint.😁
