Angry_GCI
Hi, I'm struggling to find References for how the Antenna is anchored to the aircraft as all of the restored aircraft seem to have it removed or replaced with a UHF radio. If anyone can help that'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Edited April 2, 2020 by Angry_GCI
dogsbody
None of the pictures I have show any antenna wires. Others, surely, will know more. Chris

While not directly antenna related I did do some details notes about spine detail http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd135/humebates/SpinedetailCurtissH81TomahawkRAFAVGChinaversions.jpg Edited April 3, 2020 by HBBates
Toryu
AVG Hawk 81s had standard P-40 antenna wiring. This is confirmed by many AVG pictures in my respective references. In the middle picture above an antenna wire can be seen right above the horizon leading from the tail to the fuselage spine isolator point. It may be possible, however, that some or all of the wires were removed on some aircraft. The usual wiring was (1) from tail to spine, (2) from tail to each wing tip, and (3) from the starboard wing wire to the radio entry point isolator (the second isolator in the picture above), which seems not installed on R T Smith's plane. There was a great summary of P-40 antenna wiring in this topic section recently but unfortunately I can't find it now. Cheers, Michael
