Artie
Second in line came this old lady. IMHO, this one of the best looking aircaft from the Golden Age of aviation. I think it's a masterpiece of art decó design. The obvious way would have been a colourful USAAC trainer, with that shiny NMF fuselage and chrome yellow wings, but I finally decided to build it as one of those ex-dutch machines pressed into service by the australians once they flew from Java, after the japanese invasion. They weren't used as trainers, but as hacks or liaison planes by the Aussies, AFAIK. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.... I scratch built some cockpit detail, but apart from that , it's OOB. Rigging was made with electric guitar, 0,008 plain steel string. SAT69
I really like the approach you took for color and markings. Very distinctive and a beautiful build.

Shorty84
These Testors kits build into really nice replicas, don't they? Looks really good in RAAF camo 👍 Cheers Markus
Baldy
Nice build of an interesting old kit Arturo - looks fabulous in the camouflage. Your fading/weathering on the wings is very effective. Interesting story about Aussie use. Cheers Malcolm
dnl42
Nice work on a Very Old Kit(TM)! I also very much appreciate the different color scheme. Looks quite good!
Ed Russell
9 hours ago, Artie said: They weren't used as trainers, but as hacks or liaison planes You are mostly correct. They were initially used to train Dutch pilots but after being incorporated into the RAAF they were used as liaison aircraft. There's a good summary here https://www.goodall.com.au/australian-aviation/ryan-stm/ryan-stm.htm Your model is very nice. Having done this, a Wirraway and the Wackett (very nice work!), you need a Winjeel next! https://www.redroomodels.com/product/red-roo-cac-ca-25-winjeel-trainer-1-48-scale/
Red Dog
Nice one. Brilliant finish. Another unusual aircraft but important one in Australian air history.
ratsmitglied
Very nice work - there's a flying one of these at Temora Aviation Museum (reverted back to the silver finish), not a bad aircraft to watch in the air as well.

Buzby061
I don’t think I’ve seen one of those modelled before, lovely work. Pete
Artie
Thank you very much for your kind comments. Whenever I choose a kit to build, the only thing I care about is the historic background. I tend to prefer "bizarre" subjects, instead of the so often seen ones. This one was a natural contender.... Cheers...
draggie748
Very well done. Stunning paint job, but then being Aussie, I could be biassed. 👏

sjsald
@Artie great work on this model! I am looking to start this kit fairly soon but looking to display it as polished aluminum as follows: Any recommendations or thoughts on this model would be awesome. Specifically, anything you have around the scratch built cockpits (which I hope to do as well since the ones provided with the kit are non-existent). Thank you in advance and again awesome work!
