Ronald Reagan Library - California

F-32

Recommended Posts

Now we're all spending more time at home I've been modelling more but also editing and cleaning up photographs that I haven't managed to get around to! The first batch I'd like to share are from my 2013 visit to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California. They now have an F-117 Nighthawk on display, sadly it wasn't there when I visited, I guess I'll need to make another visit one day:

A great set of images Tony. I went there too in 2014 and have shots from some very similar angles!  It is an excellent collection in a very scenic area. Not sure what the landscape looks like these days though as I understand the Californian wildfires came quite close.

Many thanks for sharing.

The VC-137C is beautiful. Yes, it's smaller than the VC-25 but it has an elegance the newer airplane can't match. My two cents worth.

Nice set!

I was there just before Christmas last year; the fires burned right up to the grounds in places, but none of the buildings was touched. they were very lucky.

As for the f-117, it had not long been put on display when we visited. It is very awkwardly placed on the west side of the main building, in shadow for most of the day and in a bad position to get a good photo of the whole airframe.

On the plus side, if you need close-up detail shots......

Is it my imagination, or does the rear fuselage panel in the second-to-last F-117 shot look a bit wrinkled? Exposure to sunlight? Age of the materials? Radar-absorbant paint bubbling in the sun?

Interesting to see, whatever the reason.

Chris.

And I most definitely agree with you. The VC-137C brought an air of dignity and class to presidential travel. The VC-25 just can't do that, never has and never will.
