Plastic_parts
Hello fellow self isolators, I hope everyone is well. Just a very quick question if I may? Can the Italeri 1/72 Mig-21 bis (kit number 1427) be built as an Indian Air Force machine? I really like the look of one I saw in a picture with a sort of stripey cammo finish. Cheers in advance fellas. mick Edited March 31, 2020 by Plastic_parts
Giorgio N
India did use the MiG-21 Bis as represented by Italeri (or better, Fujimi, as the Italeri kit is simply a rebox of the Japanese product), so you can use this kit to build an Indian aircraft. However I'm afraid that the one you saw was an older variant, the FL. This is really very different from the Bis represented by Italeri and is closer to the PF variant. When I say very different, I really mean very different: different front fuselage, different spine, different canopy... the best starting point would be the recent Eduard Mig-21 PF
Plastic_parts
Cheers for that Giorgio.. is there a difference between the of and the pfm versions?

There is one important and very visible difference and this is the canopy: the PF had a one piece canopy hinged at the front. The PFM introduced a more conventional canopy layout with a separate fixed windscreen and an opening section hinged on the right side. There is then the vertical stabiliser, that in the PF was narrower. However the FL variant that India used had the same wider chord stabiliser of the PFM

Giorgio N
Well, with over 11,000 aircraft built over several variants, it's only normal that there are a few differences.. 😁 In any case, there have been some interesting Indian MiG-21 Bis and you can build one of these from the Italeri/Fujimi kit. Have a look here: http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Galleries/Aircraft/Current/Fighters/MiG21Bis/ While these are the earlier FL http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Galleries/Aircraft/Vintage/Fighters/MiG21FL/ India also used the M variant, that again would require a different kit http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Galleries/Aircraft/Current/Fighters/MiG21M/

But India also have upgrade version MiG-21 bis - "MiG-21bis UPG Bison". It cannot be directly built from the kit Fujimi/Italery.
