Thanks all. Would it have been the addition of certain less than aerodynamic fittings to the airframe that required plates for fine adjustments or were they more common than that?

Hello mate The deflector plates are not peculiar to the U.16,  they were a common Meteor fitting certainly on later variants and are included moulded on the tail of the Airfix F.8 kit. I’m sure someone out there will know exactly from which mark they were introduced.

That's superb work, the paint is first class. There's a U-16 at my 'local', I do enjoy gazing at it from time to time

Superb, and very colourful. Like has already been said, I too used to ignore these older types for the more 'exciting' ones in grey/green.......My mistake.

I think I might have to look at doing something along these lines.
