Revell 1/24 Routemaster to AEC Regent 111

Hi all

Vehicle's are not really my strongpoint, so please forgive my ignorance. Would it be possible to convert the routemaster to the AEC Regent 111? Are there a lot of differences? I can see the grill is different, is there any aftermarket available for the Revell kit?

Cheers

Technically the AEC Regent III was a running chassis offered by AEC upon which varous companies (Park Royal, Cravens, Roe, Wemann ...) built their own style of body. The nearest style to that of the Routemaster (RM) was the London Transport RT which was a Park Royal body on the AEC Chassis which as Park Royal built the RM body is not surprising.

There are however substantial differences in the body, for example the front upper deck rakes back more on the RT than the RM which affects the first upper window and more importantly the front dome. And of course Revell models the extended version of the RM so a section requires removal to represent an RT.

If you want to model a Regent III that is representative of one operated by one of the municipalities then it would be debateable about how much of the body could be used.

I don't want to put you especially as its something I've too considered doing If I lay my hands on a cheap offering

Best starting point would be to find suitable drawings which are available on the internet

If  you are referring to the London RT  type (which isn't strictly a Regent III) the answer is no just on the basis that the  Revell RML  was 4 ft longer and 6"wider than the RT. and had a completely different body style.

If you are looking to produce a Regent III used by another bus company , as alluded to by Circloy  the Regent was a chassis only and there were quite simply so many variations of body manufacturers and styles used  the RML would not  be a good basis  to start. In fact the RM/RML were integral buses without a chassis so you even haven't got this bit to start as a basis for a conversion.

A scratchbuild would probably be the best way forward. Maybe you could use a few bits of the RML kit but it won't be much.

Thanks very much for the replies guys. I have decided it is too much work to convert. My mum used to be a conductress and I still have her badge, the idea was to build and display with it next to the model. I may just build the RM but paint it in the local company colours. Call it a what if 🙂
