What I do is to loosely write on the seam, clean after 20 seconds with a cotton rag and check where the ink has remained. The bit left on the masking sheet: Untitled by Ced Bufton, on Flickr On: For a change I don't mind if the mask is slightly off as there's a transfer for the white outline. I just remembered to mask one of the rudders to protect the white: … then sprayed on the underside colour and black on the masked props: What, I thought, is the difference between variation and a bad spray job? I decided it was intention. This is meant to be a bit varied: Honest. Oooh look, scribed doors. Told you I was rubbish at it. Now I need to mask the demarcation with Tak sausages (sausages!!) and remember to be careful to spray across the leading edges. That's a 'rough' line too.

CedB
Thanks Simon, Keith and Tony Ah, those old TV programmes were great weren't they? Thanks Heather I think the 'old services' might come back, for a while. Sadly the supermarkets (what IS 'super' about them?) tend to subsidise 'essentials, making deliveries like milk and bread more expensive. For interest, a pint of Organic from Moo2Me in plastic is 93p (standard 80p) and 2 litres £2.69. In a glass bottle it's 97p a pint, presumably to cover the cost of washing the bottles. That's twice the price of the supermarkets When this is over, will we go back to 'cheap is better' I wonder? 1 hour ago, AdrianMF said: According to my daughter (until recently a student), you "just" lean forward and cut all the hair that's dangling down in a straight line across. I knew I'd need to have the paint thinned properly so I fitted the big paint pot thingy and checked for 'skimmed milk consistency', whatever that is. I adjusted the pressure to 20psi and used the Mac valve so that I could get a nice thin line on the test bottle. Splatter started - I wiped the tip. I added more thinner and did a bit more. Splatter started - I wiped the tip. I added some retarder medium and did a bit more. Splatter started - I wiped the tip. Poured some thinner in a lid so I could wipe the tip with that: Still splattering, and worse when it hits the other colour: When both were done I cleaned out the brush: Not skimmed milk, more like cream. Something went wrong there. You can always tell how a session went by checking the booth: What a mess. I will look at this: …and this: …later and decide what to do. Grumpy. Biggles87
I just cannot do freehand soft edged camouflage with any of my three airbrushes.I use masks held just off the surface with blue-tack or something similar, and spray at about 80deg onto them. giemme
Ced, I did a few models in camouflage using Lifecolor - like Vallejo, they are vinyl based acrylics. I always masked with blue tack. The only time I went free hand was for the smoke rings on my C205, and I used Vallejo Glazing medium mixed with Lifecolor paint and a tad of water IIRC - and kept cleaning the needle each and every two minutes. Bottom line, you are still in time for blue tack sausages, to refine the job you've already done (not necessarily respraying the darker color, you could just go the other way round) HTH Ciao 5
