Flankerman
Just finished - the USS Growler from Micro-Mir...... I didn't get an exact straight line for the waterline... (the port side is better..) Colours are from rattle cans of Halfords Grey and Red Plastic Primers - with Humbrol Panzer Grey enamel for the non-slip decking. I've just realised - in my rush to get it photographed and on here - I've forgotten to weather it!!! (It's an age thing) Ken PS - WIP is here :-

Flankerman
Here's her sister boat - USS Grayback SSG-574...... (Pit Road resin kit).... Note the 'fairings' covering the domed end openings to the misile hangars..... These are not present on Growler as she is now displayed in NY. They appear in some B&W photos of her - presumably when she was operational?? Does anyone know if they were only removed when she was put on display?? Just curious. Ken Hi Ken, heres a link they were removed when she was converted to a SEAL delivery platform, recommissioned to APSS-574 in 1969. For anyone interested in US boats this is my main website for photos http://www.navsource.org/archives/subidx.htm All the best Chris

Thanks for the info Chris So she is a bit of a hybrid as currently displayed in NY ?? (and modelled by MicroMir) APSS plus a Regulus I missile and launcher as an SSG.... Vairee eenteresting.... (and modelled by MicroMir) The Growler as modelled by Mikromir is as she is on display, the raised sides by the silos were added in her 1988 refit before she was put on display. She was never converted to an APSS. So to model her as originally deployed, she would look as per your USS Grayback model with the camshells over the silo hatches and no raised sides. There are some nice photos of these on the site from different angles, a bit of a challenge to show open LOL But if you could take a mould of yours Ken, youd be halfway there. Whereas USS Greyback could be modelled as her APSS configuration using the Mikromir model, very easily. 1) Cut the raised sides off. 2) Add 10 ft to the sail 3) Add two dorsal passive sonar fins and you have APSS Grayback All the best Chris Edited March 25, 2020 by whitestar12chris text amended
