Bughunter
Benz Motorwagen 1886, ICM 1/24 I just finished my newest work, the brand new "Benz Motorwagen 1886" from ICM in 1/24th scale. After the pleasant experience with three built Ford Model-T from ICM I couldn't help but to haggle this kit at a dealer at the exhibition in Fürstenfeldbruck (Germany). Bought on March 1st, today in the gallery - an absolute speed construction for me. Once again I tried to build out-of-the-box, but did not quite make it. My build report can be found here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235069489-benz-patent-motorwagen-icm-124/ The paintwork was done with Gunze, Mr.Paint, Alclads for the metal colours and oil colours for the wood and washing. A great kit, but it also has its pitfalls. The representation of the spoke wheels is successful for a large series model, although the original has more and more filigree spokes. Annoying was the mould displacement, at least on my copy. I dedicate this model to my wife, for supporting me for my hobby. Enough babbling, now the pictures! The great print of the patent specification in A4 format is part of the kit. There are only a few details at the bottom, so one could still let off steam. Another size comparison to the not exactly big Ford T Touring, also from ICM. Cheers, Frank 34

Gorby
Wow, isn't that a delicate little beauty Frank. My wife's just seen the photos and says she loves it as well, so perhaps….. I wonder if someone will do an after-market Bertha Benz and sons?
Bughunter
Thank you! 4 minutes ago, Gorby said: I wonder if someone will do an after-market Bertha Benz and sons? I think I can help you: take the ICM kit number and add 1, so you have a new ICM kit number of a Motorwagen plus figures of Mrs. Benz and Sons That news is so brand new, it is not listed yet on ICM page or scalemates, but here: https://www.zinnfigur.com/en/Modelling/Model-Kits/ICM/1-24/Benz-Patent-Motorwagen-1886-with-Mrs-Benz-and-Sons.html I hope we will see then a build report too. Bughunter
Just let me add, that I won a Gold medal with this model during the "Austrian Model Masters" in October 2021, beside my biplanes. I was particularly pleased about that because it was off my normal topic That was great to had a real live show with real people again Cheers, Frank

All the different materials and finishes look absolutely spot on - the wood parts in particular are especially realistic!
Bughunter
Thanks! On 1/9/2022 at 9:29 PM, Paul H said: the wood parts in particular are especially realistic! I must admit that this is an advantage of building WWI biplanes normally. There you often need wood simulated with paint, so I'm practiced enough at that task. Bughunter
Thank you! In the new ICM catalog there is now a "easy version" with the PE spokes, and I guess cheaper. But I don't know how good injected plastic will look. Cheers, Frank
Maginot
Beautifully done. The finish on the leather and wooden parts is particularly well done.
Mr Mansfield
A deserved winner! What a stunning model. What technique do you use for the wood effect?
