Roland Pulfrew
Does anyone know, or have any good reference pictures or diagrams regarding Lancaster radio aerials? I’m close to finishing a B2 for 115 Squadron, and I just need to know whether and where any HF (?) are attached. These would be the long wire aerials that appear on some line drawings (such as in Wiki https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Lancaster) but are rarely visible in photos of the period. Any help appreciated👍
ratsmitglied
I'll have a look in my Lancaster books later today and see if I can find anything for you.

ratsmitglied
I couldn't find anything definitive, but the cutaway drawing in one of the books I have show the HF aerials connecting to the inside of the tail at the join between the top front panel and the top panel (if that makes sense - I can't post a photo right now), and on the canopy frame almost immediately above the seats - I really need to get a photo of this https://weaponsandwarfare.com/2018/12/12/avro-lancaster-part-ii/ has a cutaway diagram that shows the attachment on the tail, but it's very hard to see the canopy - if you look at https://www.alamy.com/avro-lancaster-bi-cutaway-drawing-circa-1943-44266126-image257501940.html and enlarge it then use a straight edge to get the line of the Aerial you can sort of see where it attached to the canopy. in terms of photos, the book I have does show some of the details if you look closely enough, but the digitised versions I can find seem to have lost these as the digitisation process probably saw them as artifacts of digitisation
ratsmitglied
Ok, so I managed to get some photos Shared in this folder (photos are only of the necessary details), I'll try and embed them in this post when I can upload them to my web hosting (i.e. when I'm not on my chromebook) In the picture of the canopy the attachment is just next to the number 21 Photos showing the canopy attachment - https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/C347467 https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/C347470 https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/C1150175 OF course no guarantee that the HF aerials were fitted to the aircraft you are modelling, but hopefully the combination of photos here gives you the necessary information Edited March 19, 2020 by ratsmitglied
