Spitfire MK I, a first for me

Recommended Posts

Wow, beautiful work thus far!  You are doing the exact same paint scheme I am planning for my Tamiya Spitfire Mk 1., and I can only hope that mine will end up even half as good!  Great job!

Thanks! for your feedback I am sure you will build a very good model. Each modeller has his own style and there is not right or wrong way. Beside the decals, another head up that I have not mentioned in my build is how the armored windscreen is supposed to be glued.

D.

Ooooooooo lovely, great work so far . I do like your paint effects too.  Glad you got the decals on okay.  This is going to look stunning once complete.

All the best

Chris

Thank you Chris! Let see how it will look when I will remove the tapes from the transparent parts. I see you are from Kent, I went several times this year in Kent because my son is studying there. Nice area.

D.

Is he studying in Canterbury, if so he is lucky, that is a lovely place, I used to work in Canterbury and loved it.  I live on the south part of the County very close to the sea which is lovely although far too packed recently for comfort even into the evenings.

Keep up the good work on your build and fingers crossed for the tape removal.

All the best

Chris

Hi all,

after having blackened the panel lines, today I have applied several coats of flat clear and finally removed the last masking tapes.

I sprayed the last coat with a drop of medium grey to tone down a bit the contrast of the colors.

It went quite ok, but, as I feared, when I removed the masking from the front glass, I found some blemishes around the armored windscreen. These were caused by the spilling of the glue of the windscreen onto the rest of the transparent. I could gently sand the marred spots and then treat them with a gloss coat, but it looks quite risky and for the moment I will have to live with that.

The inspection of the underside, did not reveal big problems. I applied some dark shades around the air scoop to simulate the areas stained by the oil leaks.

Some stains around the exhausts area:

Now, I am in the final stretch, I will have to work on the remaining bit and pieces to finish it off.

Thanks for watching,

Best regards,

Daniele

Dear all,

I went on with assembling the last bits. Here, the propeller, engine exhaust tubes and the cockpit door.

The wheels and landing gear doors:

The antenna mast:

What is left to be done are the nav lights and the aerial wire. The next installment will be the final one.

Thanks for any comment,

best regards,

Daniele

My first build on BM is coming to an end. All remaining details were added together with the aerial wire. The Tamiya kit was really most enjoyable, I think the best kit I have built so far (it was also my first Tamiya kit). The only head up that I can mention is the gluing of the armored windshield that did not go too well in my case.

These are my final pictures with a whitish background taken with my I-phone.

This is the black/white bottom which took me some efforts:

As soon as I take better pictures with my camera, I will post them on RFI. The depicted plane 'N3200' was restored to flight conditions in 2014 after resting for 50 years in the sand of a beach near Calais.

Thanks to all who followed my build,

Best regards,

Daniele
