That is a very neat canopy solution! The Sunderland canopy fits very well.

Adrian

Thank you. The extension was a kind of problem and was accidentally solved when I've noticed those plastic dishes with curved sides... (for sushi of tapas)

I have decided for RAAF machine finally.

The canopy ws sanded. I used subsequently:

1. paper 600 (wet),

2. paper 2000 (wet),

3. cotton cloth (polishing),

Tamiya acryl gloss varnish diluted with ethanol.

The small scarf on the top, on non-transparent part which still have to be  sanded  is a trace of a hole I had to drill in canopy to remove a kind of dirt from inside, which happend to attache someway...

Now will be time for scribing and detailing the surface. I am not sure yet how to do it...

Scribed fusealge

I decided to check scribing by first painting with diluted EDSG

Some sanding and correction was needed. I cut out the position for single gun on upper side of fuselage and made frames on canopy

I realized, that redans are too rounded, should be sharp. It needs some extra work

49767190092_55b57af6f7_o.jpg

And I start to work on beech wheels. I prepared resin balls os additional floats, made and extension of legs below floats, changed also upper part (in Airfix Sunderland the upper part is connected to fuselage in case of Empire it supports wings

Floats on the beaching legs were either grey, black, yellow (very rare), weathered to sort of mud colour or red and green for  port/starboard floats.

This information is from a guy who worked on them at Rose Bay.

Oh, so they were like a kind of navigation light! Just to tell one side from another. Thank you. Here they are in two colors, only upper are darke http://www.airwaysmuseum.com/Shorts S23 G-AETX @ Rose Bay.htm

The museum one has this feature indeed :):

Note the huge model Empires hanging from the ceiling in both shots...

Indeed! I overlooked it.

After sharping redans I have just glued wings in position! :)

Photo with wings glued:

some filler needed to cover gaps

Here in the evening after sanding putty

The bottom view. Please note also the sharpered redans

And the front view of Empire (a real beast!)

The Italeri Sunderland mk I has on one engine a end of exhaust pipes on Empire. So I made resin copies for all four exhausts

They need some final touch and painting

BTW - I drilled for them position seen on photo of wings from top. I made it as I thought I observed from photos. However, the Sunderland has it much more aft, I think both should have the same position, I have to look through photos once more. Any comments on this will be appreciated.

Hi,

Empire is getting some colours

From bottom "RAAF Sky blue". This is my approach:

From top TSS, Since I am painting with brush, I am giving three tin layers, now is second on fuselage and first on wings. The paint (when wet by bliking) shown some point to correct and those places are sanded on photo

That’s looking more and more fabulous!

BTW the English word for the place where the bottom surface changes height is the “step”. I think that’s what you mean by “redans”.

Regards,

Adrian

Edit: redan

noun

plural noun: redans

an arrow-shaped embankment forming part of a fortification.

Now I know :)

Hi,

Thank you for your kind comments!

I am planning to go on with painting and varnish, because I can not remove the big windows masks as well as I can not do small windows with clearfix untill matt varnish is not applied. And since the decals comes on only few position I will apply the decals when they will come from Red Roo, Australia (I am waiting for whole conversion set, ir decals and MG).. I expect that it can last some weeks....

So I did some more painting works

So I hope to apply matt varnish and then I can check, how the big windows looks like. I am really a bit nervous about it...

We will see it, I hope, tomorrow.

Hi

Today I was removing masking, after double matt varnish coat overall

Some correction are of course requires, but it is not bad - if you compare with problems with windows when they are glued one by one, and the all reflection angles...

49789165722_456bfca85b_o.jpg

All small windows are filled with clearfix.

I will work on finishing beech wheels now

Have you changed the lighting?

It seems to me that the previous (i.e. yesterday) colours were much closer to the original  than today's are 🧐

Wow!

not only is this a fantastic build, but I can’t believe how fast you’ve got to this stage. Last time I checked in, you was making internal bulkheads, now the paint is on. Superb modelling skills. I need to dig my CMR kit out now, totally inspired.

now come on Adrian, need to see yours progress :tease:

The day before were in evening, so with bulb lights (LED) and yesterday during sunny day - apparently the blue component got high...
