Miniart Grant Mk.1

Recommended Posts

Working on the Miniart Grant Mk.1 (non-interior kit).  In a word, this kit is spectacular.  Detail and textures are top-notch and this is easily the best Grant kit on the market.  The workable tracks are a bit time-consuming, but turn out nicely.  Hope to have this one wrapped up shortly.

They had 24 Grants at Gazala, including the serial number for the one I’m building, which was lost.

Ah, ok. I wondered if there was some sort of family connection, is all. My father served for a while with 3RTR as (I have reason to believe) a driver in a Grant, but he didn't arrive in that theatre until July 1942.

In the course of trying to trace my father's military footsteps I managed to obtain a transcript of the 3RTR regimental diary for the months of July-September 1942, and that was certainly very enlightening.

Anyways, apologies for the slight divergence in your thread :)

No worries at all.  Those diaries can be fascinating as well as sobering.

I like the riveted hull combined with the casting texture on the turret and transmission cover.  Another nice point of contrast are the OD sand shields, it's subtle but effective. The model already looks kind of dusty without any apparent pigment deposits, maybe it's the ultra matte finish, just can't put my finger on it. How did you achieve this?

Cheers,

Ernst

Some of that comes from the filters-the thinner dries like that.

very nice - that Grant is fetching, did consider the interior kit but have 2 at the moment to build, perhaps this would be a good alternative - does it count as a "relaxing" build?

Thanks for the very generous comments!

I’m currently working on a sequel...(Grant Mk. II)

Ready to install the tracks and sand shields before I move on to the rest (only the lower hull and running gear are complete so far). This one will get a charcoal/black disruptive scheme over Desert Pink. DP is very difficult to photograph.  This is actually a warmer, rosier (slightly) finish, but looks more yellow/orange in pics than it actually is.
