Faraway
JN751. Flown by W/Cdr Ronald P. Beamont DSO, DFC & Bar. CO of No 150 Wing. Newchurch. June 1944. The original use of 150 Wing was to provide air support during the invasion, however, from mid June the Wing was moved back to Southern England, to provide protection against V1 'doodle bugs' for which this aircraft was especially suited and of which W/Cdr Beamont accounted for 32. At the end of September the entire unit, under the leadership of Beamont, moved to liberated Europe. On October 12th his aircraft was hit by flak and had to put down behind enemy lines. He spent the rest of the war as a POW. After the war he continued as a test pilot and flew many aircraft, including, Meteor, Vampire, Canberra, Lightning and the TSR2. He retired in August 1979 and died on November 19th 2001. I hope you all enjoy my attempt at this aircraft. Jon Apologies, I missed painting the leading edges of the wings yellow, didn't see it until I'd posted, This will be rectified. Promise. Harold55
Very nice job. I have always like the lines of this plane and think it is one of the best looking propeller aircraft. Question for you: is this the old or new Eduard tooling of the Tempest?

I have no idea whether it’s old or new tooling. There is a copyright date of 2018 on the box. I do know, that I’ve built better kits. Some of the parts didn’t fit too well, not sure I’d go for another Eduard kit (unless it was very cheap). Having said that, it was nice to get the PE parts as standard and the end result was ok. I have had good luck with Eduard, particularly newer tool stuff but this is good to know as I have the old tooling of the Tempest. I had thought of trading up but I think I will give the old one a go. I know that one has problems but I think it will still looks like a Tempest when done. stevehnz
From memory, not too reliable, one obvious pointers to the old Tempest tooling was the tailplanes were too far forward, & would have prevent to rudder from ruddering. @Faraway that is a lovely job you have there, Beaumont's machine is a most tempting subject but as a Kiwi, a 486 Sqn one might be 1st choice.
