Baby Blitz...1/48 Junkers Ju188A-2 Rächer, II./KG6

Just curious (being a big fan of your dad's work!) - how many builds does he have on the go at any one time? I struggle to concentrate on just one at a time, don't know how he does multiple builds and long may he continue to do so.....

Wow, that sounds like a real production line.....I'll be very interested to see the Ju 188 progressing, as I have two of them in the stash and the same AIMS decal sheet too.

At the rate your dad builds there must be quite a collection somewhere - and at the quality of builds a spectacular one. Are the two of you running a museum?

😄

Yes, we could open a museum.

Some are displayed in vitrines and cupboards, the rest is stored in boxes in the attic.

Some paint, drybrushing and Eduard PE seatbelts for the cockpit. Masking tape as seatbelts for the sideseat, also this one usually had no seat back I think.

changed plan.....because the polka dot camo will be a nerverecking job, we decided that my dad should do this A-2 one

luckily Dragon´s 88 and 188 kits are designed modular, so my dad´s gonna steal the engine(nacelles) from this Ju88G-6 kit which also includes the flame dampers

putting the cockpit tub together

removed the seat beside the pilotseat, found out there´s actually a folding seat in the sidewall

partially fit isn´t that good with these old Dragon kits

be careful when assembling the landing gear, the parts are mixed up in the instructions, my dad found out too late and had to use the parts from the Ju88G-6 kit that already donated the engine nacelles

Been tempted to get one of these so following with interest :)

Hard to find these days, but if it's true, Revell releases a reboxing of the Dragon kit this year. Don't know now if it's an A or E version.

Hi Reini,

Nice to see a 188 being built but one comment if I may, if I remember correctly (I’m away from my references at the moment so can’t double check)the instrument panel was not mounted to the control column but to a mounting on the inside of the cockpit framing.

If it would help I will double check when I get back to my references.

Cheers

Dave

Yes, you´re right, it was mounted somehow to the frame. Don´t know what my father will do. Glueing the thing to the clear part brings risks...

Slowly getting the thing together

That's good news if true, I have always liked the 188. Was hoping that ICM would use the opportunity to make some using their 88 series as a base, but this will do too.

I guess sooner or later we'll see a Ju188 family from ICM, would be the next logical step.

Interesting Reini I did exactly the same thing as your dad and raided the nightfigher kit. At first it was because the A sprue was missing and then became the nightfigher kit parts were much sharper moulded. This is the older A1 kit. I ended up getting the kit for free and then the nightfigher kit was a lot cheaper at the time. Win win for me.

That instrument panel may be correct. Most models and drawings show it on the canopy frame.  However, I have two good photos of the last

Ju 188A1 torpedo bombers that clearly don't have it on the canopy.

I like the way your dad did the switches using a bronze/brass colour which is correct
