AMK 1/48 Fouga Magister

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

A bit left field for me, but I was tempted by this having seen one in the flesh.

Looks a super duper kit.. very detailed. My only observation is that there are a multitude of moulding sink holes over everything - the cockpit has loads on the visible top surface - but none underneath!

Just cleaned up and started to get some of the basics together- the fit so far is top notch.

Here’s a link to a better preview of the kit than I could manage...

Here’s where I’m at, planning to build out of the box as it’s so complete anyway!:

The cockpit...

The IP’s - planning to just paint and add instrument decals from an Airscale sheet:

One of the Engines, nice detail:

Part of the internal framework (pretty spectacular!)

The undercarriage bays are very nice too, good photo etch also, crisp and looks good in place.

Thanks for looking,

Good start on a kit one doesn't see built very often.

I have one in my stash too and I'm quite curious how everything fits together with the whole structure in place (pity that all the detail will be buttoned up in the end).

Cheers,

Markus

Evening all,

Bit further on with the cockpit, I’m still waiting on my Airscale instrument decals so this is as far as I can go with the tub...

Very nice, crisp moulding in this scale and the PE belts look better than I thought they would under a coat of paint 🙂

Pretty impressed with the kit so far!

Nice start on the Fouga. 👍

I happen to have built this AMK kit some months ago. It turned out to be one of my most pleasurable builds ever.

The kit is loaded with details, some are tiny, at the verge of being microscopic. So check first when you clean up the parts.

Of note are the minuscule stall strips on the wing leading edge which can pass to the unaware as injection flash.

Best wishes with your build,

Quang

Thanks 🙂

Quang, it’s a fantastic kit isn’t it? Yes, I had noticed the wing strips, but only just!

It’s super detailed, but somehow they’ve made it quite straightforward to build.

You certainly get a lot for your money.

Have you a link to your build?

Hi Guy,

Also worthy of note are the metal parts which will make your build much sturdier. I made the wrong decision to use the plastic spars for the butterfly tail. I accidentally broke one of the spar and had the most difficult time to fix it.

The most annoying about this kit is that you get A LOT of spare parts left once the build is completed!

I haven't made a build log for this kit but here are some pics of the finished model: a plane of the Patrouille de France in 1968. I hope you like it.

If you have any question, just shoot. I'd be happy to help.

It could be a very interesting build, so I’ll take a look, Guy! 👍

Please do Nikolay 😉

The main interior section painted. I’m planning on leaving the hatches off so at least some should be visible.

Lovely work so far - that cockpit looks especially nice - have you decided what scheme you're going with? I've had this kit on my list for while, and seeing this is making me want to pull the trigger and order it :)

Thanks,

I’m going for the Belgian silver/ orange one (the one without the wing phrasing...

Thanks Ale 😉

I have the same kit in my stash. I'll follow your build with a lot of interest

ciao

Ale

Me too and I also plan to finish it in the 1968 " Patrouille de France" scheme using the Berna decals sheet.

Finally got the Airscale instrument decals - I have to confess they’re generic RAF WW2! But you can’t see them unless in macro mode - honest...

The fuselage innards are now finished:

And ready to close her up!

I have to say that despite the complex interior, the fit has been exceptional. No issues at all!

Thanks,

Hi Guy,

glad to hear that the fit is good despite all the complexity. That Airscale instrument decals really improve the IPs.

Seeing the engines attached I find it a pity that all modern kits give you the option to either install them or display them. You basically never have the option (by providing appropriate parts) to display one engine and button up the fuselage without looking into a black hole.

@Shorty84

Hi Markus,

Ah yes, I see what you mean, but on this kit you can (as I’m going to) leave off the engine cowling, so the engine will be be displayed (but attached)...

Cheers,

Soooo,

She’s all buttoned up, I’ve used the cowlings, Eduard canopy set, sponges, masking fluid and Blu-Tack for masking!

There will be a slight delay now as I just realised my Alclad stocks are getting low and need a re-supply...

Looks quite menacing all black!
