De Havilland DH.82 Tiger Moth Mk. II, Royal Navy...

So far this is only a place holder...I think I'll start it next week.  Here are three other designs on the back of the box but I think I'll stick with the silver dope and dayglo orange.

These are the other choices.  Good looks all, but not the best of the four.

great to have a tiger moth along for the ride.

Thanks Rob.  I figured any of the pilots flying all the other FAA aircraft would have trained on this first.

I think the NMF and Day-Glo Orange will be an unusual look.

Here's a bit of sprue...pretty basic looking kit.  The plastic is well moulded with little flash of any kind.

A nice bit of PE...

And some good looking decals, all seemingly in register.

I'll get around to it late today or tonight.

True to form, I went ahead and did a few things without documenting them.  Mostly small things like harnesses, control sticks, instrument panels...

This is a neat little kit and I hope the rest fo the build is a reflection of my recent work.

Everything fit inside well enough and was reflective of the actual tight fit of this cockpit!

The only gap is forward of the lower wing.  It's not much and will be easily filled.

Hope you are not doing NMF! !!! But going for silver dope!

Some progress...I have drilled the holes for the rigging; attached the stabilizer; fixed the tail-skid to the rudder *; glued the very tiny and delicate pitot tube to the strut; attached the nose; and replaced those little stabilizer things in front of the stabilizer wing with some plastic card.  the kit supplied pieces looked too thick to-scale when i saw some on an actual Tiger Moth.  Now...the question I have is, what are they for?

I accidentally cut off a small bit of the rudder support and had to replace it with a bit of plastic rod.  I actually think it looks better.

I am really not happy with this PE piece, even though it is beautifully cut and designed.  It is looks a mess.  I might scrape it off and scratch build one.

ok....sounds good to me.  I know that not all TeeEms had them, but the instruction call for mine to have them installed.  I guess being a trainer, etc...

This is from The Aviation Stack Exchange...

It is indeed what they are--Parts 16.  Thanks Col.

Top wing ready and primed...

Fuselage, etc...ready and primed...

And my home-made pitot setup looks pretty good.  I was able to use some of the supplied PE for the supports.  The rest is a bit of plastic and some very thin stretched sprue and masking tape for the other things.

49652753417_08b8e6b43e_c_d.jpg

Ready for some paint!  I think I might take care of the Day-Glo first, which means a layer of white around where I'll need it.

The circled areas...

It'll be easier to mask those areas off when they are finished and then add the aluminum dope.  I have some MisterKit French Aluminum Dope that should work nicely.

While I had the 'Off-White' out for the FIAT (See the 'They Also Serve GB) I added some background base for the Day-Glo-Orange.

This is the MisterKit French Aluminum Dope I will use for the Tiger Moth.  When I opened the jar, much of the liquid had already evaporated but this paint is pretty tough and I was able to bring it back with a fair amount of Ajax and the Badger mini-motor-mixer.  As I recall, it airbrushed very well.

I'll get the Day-Glo on today and then mask that off for the dope.

All masked off for the orange...

49661413698_837e683b4b_c_d.jpg

Top wing, not the underside of the lower wing.  My error...

49661955106_8d03b1a12c_c_d.jpg

Vallejo Air Fluorescent Red...more orange, really...

49661413708_a3e0851377_c_d.jpg

Ghastly going on, so i wiped it all off...yuck.

49661955061_1f406a4020_c_d.jpg

And then tried this...

49662234452_32826e34ac_c_d.jpg

Much better results, with in terms of colour and coverage!  I remember having this dilemma with both the Chilean Cessna and the Flying Boxcar...

49662234427_988765aedd_c_d.jpg

So I'll stay there for a few hours and let that dry.  I might get the aluminum dope tonight!

Orange is a tough colour!

It is indeed Adrian.  This ended up being alright.  The aluminum dope went on late last night.  I have also sprayed the struts, painted the wheels (hairy brush) and all the incidentals.  More assembly today during self-isolation...

Back to the Tiger Moth...

PE control horns for the tail planes are in...

49674197276_f4d3460e4e_c_d.jpg

I have attached the cabane struts, windscreens, and convertible hood.  I am not sure if they used the hood on this particular aircraft but I liked it so I added it.

49673655188_d33807af89_c_d.jpg

Exhaust pipe and landing gear.  The landing gear was strange.  Instead i=of just fitting, I was required to bend the inner 'X' section to fit the positioning.  Odd.  But it worked out.

49674197176_b866f654b8_c_d.jpg

I forget how small this aircraft model is when compared to other kits.

The top wing went on late last night.  It seems alright for now.  We shall see if the struts fit or if I will need to scratch build some pieces.  This is sometimes the case.

I know this isn't the forum for this, but I hope everyone is doing alright, staying inside unless it is absolutely essential or an emergency.  Here in Greece they are slowly enacting measure to halt the spread of COVID-19, but it is taking time.  I am grateful to live on an island 120 km from the mainland.  We are somewhat used to isolating here in the winter.  So be safe everyone!  We will get through this!  I thank the gods for my hobby!

The interplane struts were no problem, really, except that the rear starboard strut was 2mm too short and needed to be replaced with a bit of Contrail stock.  I'll paint it late.

I also added the fuselage decals since there will be rigging that goes over the markings.  I will take care of the wig decals once the rigging has been completed...tonight most likely.
