Can't put the darn thing DOWN ‼️😎 Had to scratch one inner u/c door and one outer and I'll have to share a 4blade prop, but my real snag is no screen or canopy 😢 Wondering if I can clone one.... I have a Hobbyboss easy build Bubble top Jug to copy, and I've already made a Balsa plug. I just need to step into the unknown ☢️😲⚠️🔮 The info you have gleaned on here along the way has been very useful reference material. She might warrant an RFI if I get over the line 👍 I have a spare canopy and windshield in my SOD stash. PM me and I get it over to you.

The Spadgent
A little more in between home working. rocket mask. wheel mask. Dog walk mask. 🤣 sorry couldn’t resist. 😷 After all that I Sprayed. I was going to use a hairy stick after reading @tonyot’s wonderful mozzie build but sprayed instead. I’m a sucker for pre shade. 🖤 wheels. and Ze bombs. Eeek. 1% phone battery so best wrap up. coming together of parts tomorrow me thinks. 🙌 Thanks for all the support. All comments welcome. Can you see any reason that a P47N canopy won't go on a D....? They look identical and unchanged. It's the Mustangs that feature a different bubble shape, isn't it? My first effort at plunge moulding in clear over a Balsa plug was less than good! I will show you THIS though..... My first scratch build 4 blade prop, scratched from scratch I mean, I had to tell someone! 😎 Better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick, eh⁉️👨🏫🥽

rob Lyttle
Hi @greatgonzo. I have an old Monogram P47D bubble top kit with no transparency for the cockpit. I'm getting one of these Academy P47N canopies kindly given by Zack. Just checking if the two types have the same shape of canopy. They look identical to me in the pictures. 👍
greatgonzo
Ah. If the subject was fitting of the model kits parts - I have no idea at all. Except a simple rule, that 'a modeller will go trough!' ;). The canopy was the same. Looking at the pictures it is possible to see, that the blown part of the canopy shows shape differences. Unfortunately , the research for P-47 is no match for this done for Mustang. There are tones of materials left for p-51 and, sadly, lot off P-47 staff is gone far beyond Pecos River. N version canopy seems to be stable in shape. I believe I have only one book that even mentions this subject. IIRC there is not much specific there. I might take a look, but in the end all You have to do is check if Your D craft carries the same one. It should, because other types are seldom, but it is safer to do a check. And since we've been in canopy shop, maybe one finds it interesting: when they tried to fix bubble canopy concept for F4U, they converted one frame and used nothing else, but P-47 Bubble top canopy. Ha! Edit: Well, there are issues with Academy windscreen shape for P-47. At least for D model, but I don't think they changed anything here for the N. There could be some problem with fitting canopy to windscreen if they came from different producers. I wouldn't know, I used some vacuformed canopy for my Gabresky's built from Academy kit. greatgonzo
Well, there is. Nobody has done for Thunderbolt anything like excellent Charles Neely's job on P-51 canopies. Don't know if it is even possible to systemise it, but there are different P-47 canopies. Never cared much myself, as they are rare and, like I said, it is enough to take a glance at specific frame.
The Spadgent
Thanks guys for the canopy information. 😍✊ That awkward Final push to get everything together started this morning. Before that there was this. Decals on. Everything got a gloss coat ready for ze Flory. The prop got finalised too. Then all that got left until the sunrise. 🌞 What a glorious morning for some plastic fantastic. Flory done! Wax on, wax off. And a few close ups. rockets. 1000lb bomb. Under crackers!! Wheeeeeeeeel. Tail wheel. Right then. Let’s start bringing this all together shall we. Bomb holder thingies added. UC legs on. And she’s on her pins. 🤗 Tyres weathered with Tamiya weather powders. Guns added. (Lots of them) At this point I must have lost my sense because I decided to mask and spray the OD strip mat. you can see where I’m going with this right.😬😑😱😫😫😫😫😫😫. can you guess what this is?? yup! 😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫 noooooooooo and here, the notice in the middle. 😟 Such a pillock I should have seen that coming a mile off. In for a penny eh. If I’m going to touch up I might as well get the office out. Not too bad. I tidied up and got ready for some hairy stick action!!!!! More later. This is turning into a mammoth post. Thanks for popping in. I think I’m going to have a Sunday nap. 🤩😴 Johnny.
Brandy
Plonker! Oh well, is it possible to salvage the piece of decal from the masking? I only ask because although it sounds daft, I actually did it once and reapplied it! Either way I'm sure we won't be able to see the join afterwards. Why do I always think of Morcambe and Wise when I see that phrase? Onwards and upwards! Ian

Chemguy3000
If you haven’t already thrown out the tape, you could try soaking it in paint thinner (not lacquer thinner) or even WD-40 to dissolve the adhesive and release the torn decal. The Spadgent
Hello folks. More news from the Jug 😇🥳 As Rob guessed I had already fixed the star. Still wet here. But a pretty good match. luckily the stripe is looking how I wanted it and the edge of the office got sorted. It still looks a little shiny here but there is a visible difference. In other news! She has Veeeeeels. I fitted the sight. Looky that PE cross hair. 🤩😬🤪👍 Last touch for today will be the canopy masks off and some gators grip. Lovely. ❤️ oh aaand the 1:1 scale raised bed I’m making to grow some veg during the apocalypse. 💚🥦🥕🥔🧅 Thanks for looking in (again) and take care of your selves and be kind to others. As always Happy moddeling folks. Johnny.
