Ray's Lancastrian ( yes another one)

Recommended Posts

Handy use of those Paddle Pop sticks there Ray. This is looking so good as well and I can't wait until we see a rush of completed Lancs (and derivatives) gracing the gallery by the end of this month.

Cheers.. Dave

Cheers Dave, some more work done finishing up the flame damper removal and replacement with Hasegawa exhausts from a Dambuster Lanc.

The slots were backed with card...

the exhausts glued on top...

and all done.

I also started to dill out the small intake scoops on the lower nacelle, 1 down 7 to go. I'm not sure if I will do that with the bigger oil cooler intakes yet.

The nose got some treatment as well, it was pointed out elsewhere that the nose looked to pointer, so after multiple filling an sanding sessions it is getting there with a fuller look. Last filling session here I hope using Mr Surfacer to fill some pin holes.

And finally for this session I removed the Alley cat rudder assemblies from the resin pore stubs and fitted them to the horizontal stabs after reducing the size of the tab on the horizontal stab.

  • 1 month later...

I regained my mojo with this one today after loosing interest in the last few weeks of the GB

The engines when together with little fuss after replacing the the exhausts ( that is as far as I got, well I puttied the seams as well)

One of the props did give me grief as the holding pin slipped off the hub a little, enough to keep it in the nacelle but to much to keep a snug fit, there was a 2 mm gap between the front of the nacelle and the back of the hub, so it was basically rattling around rather than spinning. Anyway the prop ended up falling off the pin so I split the nacelle open and reassembled it properly.

Engines were sanded and added to the wings, the joins then filled and sanded again, right wing

And the left wing with the troublesome No 3 engine gluing prior to puttying the nacelle to wing gaps

Next I started to add the horizontal stabs and test fit the canopy, I found that there was a gap at the front which needed some shimming

and finally the other stab fitted and glue setting

Let's see if I can now see this to the finish!

Well done, Ray. I thought I was the only one still 'soldiering on! It's definitely worth finishing as we don't see many Lancastrians built. All the best. Mike.

I hope to finish this one up in the next week, my success with the paint will determine that I suppose.

I have the main assemblies together now, it has been primed and I'm still sanding some of the rough spots

Gear legs going on

and the main gear doors, must be time to prime again.

Now approaching the finish line with this one, I have painted the internals, not sure of the colours so made it up with interior green featuring a lot. The wheels are also painted and on

I also added the deicing boots that need a tidy up.

And it was finally time to add the canopy assembly, I tried to adjust as much as I could before fitting but some filling still required (and some persuasion to help the glue set).

It has since been filled, I letting it all set before some sanding and further paint work.
