Blackburn Firebrand TF5

Recommended Posts

Torpedo painted and the canopy unmasked. A little more work on the torpedo and it can be attached. Then we'll be done.

I put a coat of satin varnish on to pull the finish together and seal in the transfers. Once dry I then gave it a coat of Liquitex matt varnish. I've only used a single coat which leaves a bit of a sheen. The photos on these aircraft in this camouflage scheme suggest they were kept pretty clean and in a good condition.

Thanks Pat and Rob, it does look a beast. And has turned out really well.

And the tin tin fish is now attached and apart from a little bit of paint needed for the detonator, the Firebrand is finished.

Thanks Steve abs AW. I rather think the Firebrand is a rather attractive aircraft, looks big and beautiful, mean and purposeful. Unfortunately she was designed for a role that was no longer needed as well as having some design flaws, the position KFC the cockpit with relationship to the nose being just one of them.

Though here she is finished and getting ready ready for her photo shoot.

She’s a cracker, you must be proud of that.

I agree,

Decidedly purposeful and not unattractive, at least to my eye - much better than the ungainly Barracuda. Making a torpedo attack on naval units was, by the end of the war, a pretty grim prospect, but the Firebrand would probably have stood a better chance than most.

Nice build.

Very nice.  Well done.

Must get one of these one day.

Was only reading an Article in Aeroplane Monthly the other night on it’s “successor” the Firecrest. Now that’s a beast!
