Red patches over gun barrel openings in 1/72 scale

Why not just use a dot of PVA glue in the openings and carefully paint the square your chosen colour  like red oxide or whatever.

Agreed, but the problem is getting sharp corners when painting without even fussier masking.  I think the actual patches were red, not red oxide.  When they were replaced by doped patches I'd expect red oxide.

I was hunting round for something else and came across some el cheapo Xmas wrapping paper I bought on Xmas Eve in an emergency. Ahaa a light bulb went on and I hurried away to the spare room to chop a selection of 3mm square patches that I glued on with thinned PVA glue and used a blunt cocktail stick to press in on the muzzles to make a dent. What do you guys think
