Hi gents,

Here’s my entry for this group build. I’ll be building Academy’s new Tomcat with decals robbed from a previous iteration of this jet from the same company. Should everything go to plan it’ll be done in the markings of either Fast Eagle 101 or 107 which were involved in the 1981 Gulf of Sidra incident.

Nice one mate its a great kit.
Just watch out for raised pin marks on the back or inside of some parts which can affect alignment. Apart from that it goes together lovely.
Are you happy with which parts from the kit to use to depict one of these jets?

Thanks for the tips mate.

Both Fast Eagle 102 (BuNo 160403) and 107 (BuNo 160390) were block 95 jets. So no ECM blisters on the wing gloves and beaver tail, standard gun vent, standard A main wheels, L-shaped tail braces, early non-TCS chin pod, no GPS dome and short TACAN antenna on the spine.

Good thing is that this is a Swiss Army knife kit of the Tomcat so most variants can be built OOB. Shame that they don’t include the SJU-17 NACES seats for the D.

Coming along very well. Really do like the way that the decals fitted the instrument panel, usually the kit decals do not fit that well if, at all..

Nice Mark mate.
Just be careful it doesn’t end up looking like it was made in Scotland with tartan paint.
That’s the danger when preshading every panel line the same.
Give black basing a try next time, ie just use a black primer then build up your colour from there to add variation. One less stage of painting too by not having to do grey then a preshade.
I have been using black stynylrez for the past few years now to prime and a base for paint.
