3D Design

Giddey to all,

I tried to scratch build the coal winches, but as they are very tiny peaces (3 mm height) and 20 x, I did not succeed.

So I decided to 3D print them. I worked many hours with TINKERCAD and learned to use it.

Then I uploaded the 3D file at SHAPEWAYS and ordered the model.

Starting the next lesson: the printability! Loose shells, thin walls and the scale.

The design of the coal winch is relatively simple there are only 8 shells, so I got it after 6 tries.

Here are the pic´s of this design:

and the real thing:

here is the next step for the build, 3D printed boat davits and the 2 boat cranes:

take look at the red arrow ! This is the previous scratch build part and should be exchanged with 3D Part boat crane

The boat davits - challenge was/is they should be movable! Design relatively simple: spacer.png

and the real challenge - the 2 boat cranes!

I have to make 2 different designs to get it placed at my model.

A very komplex design, 4 movable parts, 2 different designs and more than 60  shells!

When shapeways noted issues, I had to disconnect up to 20 shells, -change the design, realign and connect the shells again.

When uploaded I often discovered missing shells, and start all over again.

Here what I ordered at shapeways:

I am waiting now for the printed parts, I am very curious!

regards

Andreas
