Silenoz
Looking good, I suppose 1/350? The added railing looks very tidy so far... soon it will be my first time to try that...
Andreas.R
Yes, its 1/350 scale, the bent railing railing parts are relatively short. The longer the railing parts are, if curved or not, the more difficult for me..
Andreas.R
Giddey to all, I tried to scratch build the coal winches, but as they are very tiny peaces (3 mm height) and 20 x, I did not succeed. So I decided to 3D print them. I worked many hours with TINKERCAD and learned to use it. Then I uploaded the 3D file at SHAPEWAYS and ordered the model. Starting the next lesson: the printability! Loose shells, thin walls and the scale. The design of the coal winch is relatively simple there are only 8 shells, so I got it after 6 tries. Here are the pic´s of this design: and the real thing: here is the next step for the build, 3D printed boat davits and the 2 boat cranes: take look at the red arrow ! the boat davits - challenge was/is they should be movable! design relatively simple: and the real challenge - the 2 boat cranes! I have to make 2 different designs to get it placed at my model. As designed with tinkercad As designed with tinkercad A very komplex design, 4 movable parts, 2 different designs and more than 60 shells! When shapeways noted issues, I had to disconnect up to 20 shells, -change the design, realign and connect the shells again. When uploaded I often discovered missing shells, and start all over again. Here what i ordered at shapeways: I am waiting now for the printed parts Here is the 2 nd. Crane for the aft supperstructure. i added the ladder and railing and painted it. I am quite happy with the result! I would never be able to scratchbuild this crane as it is. Edited March 23, 2020 by Andreas.R update
Andreas.R
Giddey to all! i have got the 3D printed Cranes fro Shapeways, added the ladder and the railing for the cranes platform. I am quite happy with the result! here a view of the small steam boat. For the windows I painted a transparent decal with the brown color of the aft compartment and printed it with the laser printer. it is a simple and easy way to add some details. At least easier as to drill the tiny windows.

ArnoldAmbrose
Gidday Andreas, I've got a couple of German WW1 battleships in the stash, but they won't be built as well as this, I think. She's coming along very well. Regards, Jeff.
Andreas.R
Gidday Arnold I will have left over some PE from the Koenig PE Set. If you start building I can sent you the set half around the world by mail! Regards Andreas (I could not resist to give you the 1000 Like!)
ArnoldAmbrose
Thanks Andreas, that's a generous offer but I'm not sure I could manage PE. I'm having enough trouble handling the plastic bits on my current build, plus I don't know how painting enamels with the hairy stick would go on PE. I don't have an airbrush. Thank you kindly, anyway. Regards, Jeff.
Andreas.R
Hello, made some progress with the cranes and davits, now waiting for the PE Set. Cheers Andreas Edited April 10, 2020 by Andreas.R update
Andreas.R
This project is being given up, when I started it 5 years ago, 3D design was still unknown to me. Except for a few parts that were added this year. The main reasons for the task are the raised deck planks (like the raised panel lines on old aircraft kits) which have been supplemented with the matching Evergreen V groove plates, which can not work very well! I am currently rebuilding this model with 3D designed superstructures.
