Grumping into the 20s

Recommended Posts

On the other side of the coin though, every time schools close for the summer hol's prices go up so they can make a large profit and going away just on holiday with things like they are and have been for the last 5 months....I can understand people going to visit relatives but on holiday, seriously?,haven't they seen the news since March and things could change from one day to the next...

My next door neighbours are over at the moment. They live in Herts. The were over three weeks ago, but were adamant that they would come out again. Well, now he's got to quarantine when he gets home and because he has no more holidays, he won't be paid. Thing is, he knew that this could happen. My son is also with us at the moment, and is staying with us for 4 weeks. He spoke to his manager before booking the trip and was told that if the restrictions for France came in before he travelled, then his quarantine period would be unpaid, but if it came in after travelling, he would receive full pay. I'm glad to say that when he get's back home, he will have another two weeks holiday, on full pay, albeit in his flat. But he's not worried as he's got plenty of DVDs to watch.

Probably not going to make me very popular, but I get slightly fed up with the annual furore/angst about exam results and grades, I can remember when you passed or failed an exam with nothing in between. I think that this year there would have been a good case for postponing them until later.

PS. If they’re allowing appeals, I wonder if they would reconsider my chemistry ‘O’ level result of 1962.

John, you just CAN'T leave it there! What was the problem? Did the experiment fail to deliver a.) a LARGE (enough) bang, b.) an insufficiently bad niff?

Yes I remember Chemistry, we got to play with chemicals AND lit bunsen burners! Along with the forge in metalwork and chisels and the like in woodwork..............

Oh, AND we (just about) survived!

I like going to the cinema and the amount of people who simply can't turn their mobile phones during the movie as they continually keep on checking them. Very distracting and extremely annoying.

I believe it's called Disaster Capitalism  https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shock-Doctrine-Rise-Disaster-Capitalism/dp/0141024534/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3MPIUKV8K0YN3&dchild=1&keywords=naomi+klein+shock+doctrine&qid=1597431298&s=books&sprefix=naomi+klein%2Caps%2C167&sr=1-1

Very good book, by the way.

Ah yes, holiday prices ... it's amazing how the price of petrol jumps by about 15-20% two days before school holidays start, and doesn't come back down again until about a week after they finish!

With the intelligence of some assitants you'd probably get a refund if you claimed it wasn't fit for purpose and quoted the trade descriptions act. 😉

A bit of a delay in reporting this, but "Steve" from Orange was in contact AGAIN last week. I can't believe that these morons could be quite so stupid. After two previous encounters, when I spewed out enough racist slurs to get me banged up for a year, they still come back. But they're getting very bored and sloppy now as when I answered it was "Steve here from Orange. Is the computer turned on?" He didn't even bother with any preamble. I suppose that he was gearing himself up for the verbal assault that he knew was coming. I think that I'll try a different tack next time. I'll try being nice to the piece of shi excrement. It'll be a bit like playing charades.

If you have kids come and live in Scotland.  The school hols are earlier than in England so you can have a week away at the "cheap" prices before they go up.

They dont call us Scots tight with money for nothing.  Yorkshiremen have nowt on us

I just received a message saying that my latest Amazon purchase is being sent through Yodel. So that's that then.

😑

Update! My parcel arrived! No fuss whatsoever! I didn't know how to deal with that. Had to have a lie down.

This year there is jolly good reason for furore.

What has happened has been an order of magnitude more unjust than the usual annual whinge.

Resits?   Schools don't want to hold them....especially not the 15 hours my daughter's A level art would require....

Sorry, I was a little hasty with my grump. Having followed the unfolding shambles I now agree with you Ian that the complaints are justified this year.

Today's grump. Screwfix.

I decided to buy a dedicated T handle Allen key for my roof bars. Had a quick shufti on ebay, and thought, no I'll shop locally, and it gets me out of the house. Looked at Toolstation online, didn't have what I wanted, so accross to Screwfix. They did have what I wanted and in stock locally (directly opposite Toolstation). I drive over, park up and there are tables and tape, and a 20 something male with blue hair. And a mask. Outdoors.

'Have you ordered online?'

No.

'Right you can either order online, or browse our catalogue on your phone. We can't let you instore.'

I gave him one of those 'Paddington' looks, spread my hands, got in the car and drove away.

I expect he was only 'following orders' 🏴‍☠️ so I said nothing.

:sheep:

Came home, went on ebay and bought a German made tool for less money delivered. Better quality and no hassle.
