theplasticsurgeon
As well as the Vigilante, I want to offer a WW2 tech project. From a choice of many, I've settled for this Sword AEW Avenger. This my second Sword build, my 8th Avenger. Parts: Having done all the wartime schemes, this grey Canadian option grabbed me, Decals.
JOCKNEY
I suppose it would be inappropriate to say it reminds me of Mrs Jockney when she was carrying the twins....... Well its a good job i didn't mention it then ! cheers Pat 1 1
rob85
A different take on a avenger, nice. An avenger about to have baby avengers! I like your scheme choice, you don’t get many Canadian Navy subjects. Rob 1
theplasticsurgeon
Here, a spot of interior decoration last night, before assembly can start today.
theplasticsurgeon
Now the internal components, just before I assemble the fuselage around them. Here's a link to my previous Avenger build, which also shows my previous Avengers.
theplasticsurgeon
And pulling the fuselage together around it all. This build is cementing a 'poor-fit' reputation which I formed of Sword during my Seastar build last year.
theplasticsurgeon
And now wings on, looking like an Avenger. A long way to go yet. My thoughts so far: No number tags on the sprues, consult that spruemap a lot 😞 Very unclear diagrams showing assemble of the tail wheel. This model can't be built with a turning prop, I might modify that. No guidance or location help with the nose-ring, it's a slightly wider intake below that at top. Four parts each side to box-in the wheel-well, which then fouls the wing uppers - and required surgery. Wing location slots far too tight for the tongues on the wings. More trimming to fit ALL the control surfaces. BUT a Sword Avenger this far in under 24 hours - challenging and rewarding.

theplasticsurgeon
So - this morning's session - Humbrolled 127. Then went out to see A4 Union of South Africa on Pad-Worc excursion, on my nearby railway. Masked after lunch. Then airbrushed Humbrol 164. Grand unmask and reveal later tonight.

Here's one I prepared earlier. Tools for the job: cutting board, scalpel, a steel straight edge, and some Tamiya masking tape. Score the tape into thin strips, about matching the frame width. Next paint the tape external airframe colour. Just one colour for the Avenger. Allow to dry for a couple of hours. Dry to touch - but mot set hard. Now use those strips of painted tape as stickers over your frames. Press down the frames a bit harder, at least 6 hours later. Touchup any filled in panels, and upto the lower boundary frame. The purists will be howling that interior colour is wrong - but I'm not losing sleep over that, especially in 1/72! And - I already did the inside lower sill on this Avenger with similar thin strips of black insulation tape. It's visible. My previous Avenger from 2018 - can you see the interior frame colour? A very quick method of framing, that I've used many times. Thank-you for giving me the opportunity to share Timstyle canopy frames.
