trickyrich
yeah drilling those holes out a bit further does help the looks of those airbrakes alot!
Jabba
Thank you for your comments. I now have paint on the undersides and the tail, although I think that the tail might need a few more coats.
trickyrich
that tail will certainly break up the greyness of the rest of the scheme.
Jabba
And now with the darker Grey applied.

Jabba
Started to apply the decals with all the major ones one now. Will start on the stencils tonight. I like that way the that tail decals form aorund the bulges. I am looking at putting weapons onto the model as I like the green colour that the Swedes applied to the missiles. It is a pity that Special Hobby do not supply any, but I think that this model can be built into some other versions so suppling weapons for all may have not been an option. I have Sidewinder missile/launchers and Skyflash missile, but it is the launchers for these missile that I am not sure about. If anyone can supply any information I will be very grateful.
trickyrich
gosh i saw the red #1 and thought the decal must have gotten damaged!!! But you made no mention of it!!! It wasn't till I rechecked the initial photos of the decals that I saw it was meant to be like that......was worried that we had another decal disaster! Now I'm over that shock..... I do like this scheme, there are now a few for the Grey Viggens I like......I may have to have a break from my crazy splinter schemes (not to big..... have some serious masking planned for the super Bug!!). You're nearly there, keep it up, she looks great!
Col.
Tidy work so far Jabba. If you have a look at some of the other Viggen projects here they feature the Skyflash rails and that may help you. 20 hours ago, trickyrich said: I do like this scheme, there are now a few for the Grey Viggens I like......I may have to have a break from my crazy splinter schemes (not to big..... have some serious masking planned for the super Bug!!). Some Drakens also wore smart grey schemes...

Jabba
Yes I see what you mean, but it took me a while to see that it was correct on the decal sheet before I began. Having seen some of the problems that these decals have caused on other build, my little lump (which you can hardly see) on one of the squares is miniscule. I have now applied a coat of matt varnish. When I looked thorugh oher JA Viggen builds that were fitting weapons I notcied that the Skyflash launcher looked similar to the one that the Italian F-104S's had for their Sparrows. I have only built one F-104s in my life over 25 yrs ago and that was a special markings one, but I was sure that I kept the weapons stuff. So after a couple of nights searching (yes I do have a very large spares collection, I don't know why as some of the spares are rather random) I found what I was looking for and can be sen in the last picture. These might not be totally accurate, but it will do for what I am wanting.
Jabba
I have now got a few of the smaller items fitted. I did not like the way that Special Hobby attached the clear pieces to their associated runner, as you had to shave off a piece from under a few of them, which with my fingers and thumbs was a slightly nerve wracking few minutes with each one. I have also painted up the weapons and ejector seat.

Jabba
All complete now. Some of the decals on the missiles did silver a bit, but I put that down to them being old, or more than likely my inept modelling.
trickyrich
that looks very fine!!! Well done! and by the looks of it already for the gallery! You really can't complain or worry about the finish at all as I think she looks awesome and I'm really starting to like that scheme as well. I do hope you enjoyed the build, it's been great to follow and I'm glad you decided to join us...again well done!
stevehnz
Very smart, both your build & that scheme, the greys with the bright numerals are certainly growing on me, the tail in yours is the icing on the cake. Steve.
