DaveJL
Good progress over the last 2 days with a few sessions at the bench. First up, the panel line wash was applied: Excess removed after 45 minutes: I then moved onto the weathering. I've never really used oils a lot to weather my builds, I've dabbled, but not used them to any great degree. I decided that I'd make an attempt on this one. Now, I'm sure you can imagine the trepidation with which I splodged dots of oil on the model. Thankfully, I think it came out alright. Once dry, I sealed everything in with a coat of MRP flat varnish and then popped on the tail fins, ventral strakes, chin pod, stabilisers, cockpit framing, RIOs coaming and wings. Quite pleased with it, though i was a bit concerned initially when the oil didn't seem to spread easily so admittedly some touch ups of paint were needed. I didn't add too much weathering to the wing sweep area of the model as it'll be displayed with the wings folded in. I left that to dry overnight, allowing me to add the landing gear, bombs, exhausts, fuel tanks and pylons today: You can see the 'droop' on the seeker head of the GBU-12 here: A couple of images with the flash on: Just need to add, in no particular order; LANTIRN, AIM-9, ejection seats, pitot tube and canopy along with the removal of the windshield masking. Hoping to get it finished off tomorrow. Dave

DaveJL
Finished off this morning. The only real work was adding some Eduard mirrors to the canopy: The final product: More pictures in RFI here As always, thanks to those who commented/followed the build. fewr9fkr9595
Nice job mate. Just a quick one, I believe the D only had two mirrors for the pilot. Centre one replaced by a grab handle. Read it was because the centre mirror obstructed the view of the larger hud fitted to them?
DaveJL
Thanks chaps, Tony, you could be right mate, was going with the Daco book saying that some jets only had 2 fitted, 3 being the norm, but looking at a few images of the Ds on the last cruise, you're right, centre one removed!
