Yom Kippur War...1/48 Sukhoi Su-7BMK Fitter, Iraqi Airforce

Recommended Posts

After the refreshed Latin American subjects from 2016, now on to a few from the Middle East.

Kopro kit, Wolfpack Design ejection seat (had to cut away several mm of it´s bottom because it is too tall), IFF antennas with plastic rods, Linden Hill decals,  the underside color was an older selfmix my dad had standing around for some years (also used on the MiG), don´t know anymore what´s in it 🙂
the sand color was a "gut"mix with Tamiya XF-55 Deck Tan, XF-59 Desert Yellow and XF-60 Dark Yellow
the green was Gunze H405 Olive Green
Vallejo Metal Color Aluminium for the drop tanks and rocket pods.

The model shows an aircraft of No.1 Squadron, IrAF, stationed in Syria during the October War in 1973.

Very neat.

One comment, I was under the idea that ejector seats have different colour straps for the parachute and seat parts,  as mixing them up could cause problems...

I note also the big drop tanks, having red about Su-7 operations in the Arab MiGs books, seems they were almost fuel critical from take off!

Thanks!

My dad didn´t give it much thought then. Don´t know anymore if he used a pic of a real seat or a model for reference.

Big thirsty engine....range with droptanks was only about 250km.....well, Soviet frontline fighter/bomber concept.

Very nice Fitter!

Especially colors and load out make it extremly realistic!

Very nice rendition of this well travelled mould. Looks great - Love the colours - not sure that anyone could argue as to accuracy and they look just how I imagine they should look. I've got a couple of these knocking about and I think you have inspired me to get one built. Just love the shape of the Fitter.

Cheers

Super cool!   Another great project Reini!  :clap2: I really like the Su-7 and formerly taught with an expatriate Russian who had once served as part of the ground crew for Su-7s.  He told me "They were very tough airplane.  Very tough!" 😀

Your plane make an ideal companion for my ex-OEZ Iraqi MiG-21MF, seen on these pages recently. 😉   Thanks for sharing your great scale model here! :worthy:

You've done a very nice job of that old OEZ kit! Even panel lines looks better than on "so called -modern" Airfix kits.

I like your restrained approach to the weathering, which become some kind of obsessions lately.

Zig

Airfix has improved a lot but their panel lines are still a bit "crude", yes.

That´s my dad´s style, he´s no friend of heavy weathering or the so called spanish school.

Soviet/Russian built aircraft are mostly very tough, at least for sure tougher than western aircraft.

Seen it and liked it 😉
