Nice work Giorgio :)

I must try the CA and flour thing… and specific type of flour?

Not really. Regular wheat flour, and I think the finer the better (like 00). I'm using gluten free flour though, as 3 out of 5 in my family have celiac disease and it's the only kind of flour we keep at home - and it works great

And remember @CedB, don't use any yeast or the model will rise..............

Good to see you back on the bench again G.

Yep that canopy is going to be faired in.

If you are using PPP, or similar acrylic filler, add a drop of the cockpit colour to it.

It hides it.

Simon.

Cheers Simon, will do - thanks for the heads up!

Here's some more progress for your consideration, guys:

bottom seam sorted

fuselage22

Including the tail light

fuselage23

I'm still considering the idea of scratch building a new one from some clear plastic scrap, will see... :hmmm:

Next task was to deal with the intake, more precisely the "nose ring" as you can see from next pic, the kit sports a pretty thick edge there

nosering1

So using an appropriate Dremel tool I tried to sharpen it

nosering4

nosering3

Definitely better, although not easy to photograph the difference. While I was at it, I decided to add a strip of alu tape for the inside

nosering5

the plan is to paint the outside, instead.

That's it for tonight, all comments welcome

Ciao

Nice thinning Giorgio, looks much better :)

Thanks for the tip on the flour - I'll give it a try, one day when I'm feeling brave!

Thanks Terry - that'll help get them on the ceiling won't it? :D

No flour here either, presumably there’s a lot of bread making going on.

Let them eat cake? :D

Simon.

I have often wondered how to use filler around a canopy and not have it showing on the inside. Yet that is such a simple solution...why did I not think of that? (PS- do not answer that one please!)>

All the best, Ray

Hi everybody! I hope you all had a Happy (and safe) Easter, compatibly with the current situation.

There's been wine and food around here, but I also managed some modelling.

Remember the IP coaming I scratch built from brass? Using a Dremel cutting disc, I opened the two slots for the Pilot Attack Sights

coaming8

and scratch built those from sprue runners (actually, the small rectangular bits showing the part number from a Tamiya kit)

coaming9

Glued in place with CA, acting also as filler. I also drilled a small hole on top of them, to represent a sort of projector. I then airbrushed it with Tamiya Flat Black and glued in place using Gator's Grip

coaming10

With the PAS in place and all, it ended up not fitting quite as I wanted ....

coaming11

so I followed Simon's @Spookytooth advice and mixed some Italeri Black with PPP, and filled in the gaps

coaming12

coaming13

It turned dark grey, as you can see, but that's good anyway because I then resprayed the outside, while for the inside it was dark enough not to show any contrast.

So, once cleaned up and resprayed:

coaming14

coaming15

I then painted the projectors with Italeri Steel, followed by Tamiya Clear Green; the coaming received a drybrush with Lifecolor Dark Grey and Dark Gull Grey, and a coat of W&N Galeria Flat clear

coaming16

then I glued in the reflector screens (made from a thin acetate sheet)

coaming17

coaming18

rather simplified compared to the real thing, but better than nothing (the kit doesn't supply them)

I masked the windshield with Oramask, outside

windshield1

and inside (leaving only the outer frames uncovered)

windshield2

A quick pass with a fine brush and Aqua Gloss along the mask edges, and then it received a coat of Tamiya Flat Black too

windshield3

I then glued it in place using Formula 560 canopy glue

windshield4

While I was at it, I also masked the canopy: this time, I had to use Tamiya tape on the outside, as Oramask wouldn't conform to the curvy shapes and was leaving wrinkles near the edges (being quite thick)

canopy1

I used Oramask for the inside, though (not very visible from here, but it's there) and sliced a couple of fingers in the process, while cutting around the masks with a #15 Swann- Morton blade - boy, they're sharp! :banghead:

canopy2

As you can see, the canopy has two hinges on the back side, whose corresponding slots are .... missing on the airframe

canopy3

I'll be posing the canopy open, like this

canopy4

canopy5

So I carved out the slots using a razor saw, a chisel and a microdrill bit; here they are, after brushing in some TET to clean out the job

canopy6

That's it for the day, all comments welcome

Cheers Silvano, thanks   Beeing on the inside, you can't really see much of it, so I think it's more than an acceptable solution. :)

Coaming along splendidly  ( sorry, couldn’t resist )

   No problem, John - pun and praise at the same time, what could I ask more? :D

I managed a little progress today; gap filling around the windshield, again following the advice from Simon @Spookytooth and mixing PPP with some Italeri Black. After a couple of application and drying

windshield5

I then removed the excess with a wet finger and completed the filling with pure PPP, again smoothed with a wet finger and refined with a spongy makeup brush

windshield6

and after a quick respray

windshield7

I also detailed the inside of the canopy, adding some cabling and a reference tab for the opening arm. All glued with Gator's Grip but the tab, which was glued with TET

canopy7
