exdraken
See what came today from the big Hannants!: I could not resist and open it immediately! will be in Austrian Airforce colors, I guess I will search for decals in the decal stash... should not be too hard I hope! if not, Brentair decals does complete ones.... was called Eierspeis Bomber because of its color afaik https://www.gotech.at/saab_91d_safir.htm https://www.gotech.at/saab_91d_safir_3f-sj(c)bundesheer.jpg should be simpler than the Viggen take off project! that is what you get a quick cleanup in order to check shapes cheers, Werner Edited March 7, 2020 by exdraken
exdraken
some glue on already and some PE! the cockpit now needs some light grey base color looks really nice and improves on the kit I think!
trickyrich
welcome along again Werner, and what I nice model you've brought too. We have the 1/72nd version now the 1/48th of such a nice looking aircraft. That PE set will certainly set off the model, especially the cockpit. Good luck with this build, I look forward to following this one and eventually see her in the gallery too.
Rudolf_Filip
Good choice of kit! I'm a big fan of the Safir. I have flown in those a couple of times. Perhaps not the most beatiful, but it has quite a lot of character. 🙂 I have (almost) built three of these kits. They are not finished since I'm still haven't bought the last decals for them... The Tarangus kit is short run and need a little care to minimize the amount of work. The main thing to look out for is the fit of the canopy. It is a little wider than the fuselage. I solved this by adding a small piece of plastic card in the nose. Thus spreading the front of the fuselage to fit the clear part. I will be following your build with interest. Col.
Nice to see another Safir in the GB Werner and this kit looks to be a good one.
Bengalensis
It's a nice little kit if you work on it. This Austrian version is on the Maestro sheet. I will not be using it. You will have to mask and paint the arrow though.

Actuslly I just discovered that early on? or for the display fourship? they were in yellow with the black anti-glare only, no orange... see the photo above! Is it the same yellow though??
Bengalensis
The color in my photo looks a bit warmer, more orange, than the instructions are actually printed, although they are printed a much warmer yellow than your photo shows. Maestro suggests these paints: Gunze Aqueous H024 Orange Yellow Gunze Aqueous H014 Orange I have no idea what they look like though. Your photo looks quite like the old yellow Swedish trainers to my eye.

Bengalensis
The Swedish yellow version is not on the Maestro sheet so no comparable recommendation given there, and the Tarangus instructions don't say anything I think. I ended up getting the dedicated Swedish yellow mix from MRP. However, looking at your second photo I'd say that the Austrian version is certainly a warmer, more orange yellow than the Swedish. I always find it difficult to judge colors... 1

You're making a great start here and happy to follow along to see how you go. Looks like it's gonna be a great WIP. Cheers and best of luck.. Col.
Great progress Werner. Getting the main components together shows how lovely an aircraft the Safir looks.
Rabbit Leader
That does look rather excellent Werner. I love the Safir and this 1/48 kit looks to be a rather tempting future investment. You’re doing a great job and she’s coming along beautifully. Cheers.. Dave
exdraken
I did some pre shading, not sire if necesary with a trainer called Eierspeißbomber (scrambled eggs bomber) but nevermind some paint work already accomplished regarding color, we discussed before.... more yellow, warmer, etc... 😅 it is a mix between those 2 shades of yellow, I also added some white for whatever reasons.... ,looks better in the photos than in real life though.. yellow is a f.......antastic color! 5
