PZL.50 Jastrząb 1/72 by Akkura

Recommended Posts

I am building a PZL 50 from the cruddiest kit I have seen since I built the Avia B35 which was unbelievably even worse. 21 parts on one sprue and that includes the canopy which I think is moulded from recycled urine sample bottles which still had the contents in them.  The instructions could only be simpler if it was a slip of paper that said glue all parts together and paint.

I started with the propeller, the spinner looked a bit small so I drilled a hole in some 2mm plasticard and glued it on to thicken it up a bit

I started on the fuselage and quickly realised the fuselage didnt have any wheel wells so I had to drill, Dremel and file out some wells only problem I wish I had spotted this before I glued the fuselage together which made it a lot fiddlier.

The fuselage was horribly uneven with dips and even some of the cockpit surround missing so far its taken lots of filing a fair bit of filling with plenty more to come

The engine was a very dull plain moulding so I have decided to add some pushrod tubes and rocker boxes

More work on the wheel wells making the lining out of thin plasticard

An example of how rubbish this kit is you dont even get wheel well covers which I am cutting out of plasticard again

Next job is to make a cockpit interior out of you guessed it plasticard yep you dont get a cockpit interior. It will just be a really simple seat, bulkhead and plain instrument panel.

Bloomin eck this kit is not going down without a fight. I managed to get the canopy to fit the front of the cockpit but its too wide at the rear, I thought about trying to cut a slit in the canopy to thin down the rear but I could see all the things that could go wrong so I decided to widen the fairing behind the canopy.

Step 1 add some strips off plasticard

Step 2 a first layer of filler

Another aircraft I know nothing about. The build looks interesting and although you start off with a 'bag of nails', with some good modelling skills, you should end up with something decent and have a lot of satisfaction during the process.

Finally beat this bloomin kit into some sort of submission. I didnt take many photos because the sight of a grown man crying as he works with a nail emery board in one hand and a strong drink in the other wouldnt look good.

What I started with. Memorably described by @Luka as a reject from a Pixar movie

I had to completely rebuild the cockpit fairing to fit the wonky oversized and mis shapen canopy

I lengthened the fuselage in front of the engine firewall to make it look a little less like a flying egg.

Build wheel wells, wheel well covers and fill a huge gape between fuselage and wing

Filling and filing hell, it took many thin coats of Vallejo putty to get the shape I wanted but eventually I put a spurt on and got to the bit I really dont like Painting

I painted it in a whatiffer coat of Polish air force colours added some guns and thought sod it that'll do

Nice end result, particularly given the starting point. very unusual subject, looks a bit like a cross between a hurricane and an FW190D

Thanks I am surprised how well it looks in the photos. Especially considering how I just threw paint and decals at it to get it off the workbench. At one point whilst I was filling and filing it nearly took a very short maiden flight in the direction of the bin
