Air Canada 747-200

Recommended Posts

So here we have Revell's 1/390 747-200 in Air Canada livery.  Originally released as a Matchbox kit with BA (Landor?) & Air Canada livery in 1990 it was re-released by Revell in '97 with just the updated Air Canada livery.

It Has the registration C-FTOC which was infact a 747-100 built in '71 and scrapped in 1999.

And here she is.... Not perfect but for £5 and a lick of paint i'm happy with it.

And the only WIP pic i've got...

Just a little edit to include paints used:

Halfords plastic primer

Halfords Gloss Appliance white

Tamiya and Revell paints for the stand and wings

Windsor & Newton Galeria gloss varnish

Not too bad a kit to put together.  The engines lacked a bit in detail but given their tiny size that;s to be expected.  The stand was a pain and i inserted a pin to help strengthen the join with the aircraft.  The decals where ok though I nearly goofed them up more times than i'd like.

Will have to keep an eye on eBay for the Matchbox BA version of this kit.

Perfect or not, than is an amazing looking 747 👍

See you have a KLM 747 in progress as well?

Thank you DF, it looks a lot better than the KLM 747 which is now a paint mule with a cracked seam.  I messed up the decals on that and then the seam split.

I like the KLM livery though so I will revisit that but in a larger scale one day.

A very nice, cleanly presented model in a visually appealing scheme.

Cheers!

Thank you chaps, i’m quite pleased with it for such a cheap kit.

Beautiful work and (I assume) a very manageable size at 1/390!

Love it!

Looks good!

Thank you, appreciate the comments! 😊

The kit was good except for the undercarriage which I gave up on and went for ‘In flight’.

Have been checking eBay for the older Matchbox BA version.  I will simply say “How much?!?!”

I've got the same kit that'll be built into an Air New Zealand B747-200.
What issues did you have with the undercarriage?

At that scale it’s completely lacking in detail and a pain to paint and assemble.  With patience I’m sure it can be made to look ok but I thought it would look better ‘gear up’ on a stand.

Look forward to seeing your air NZ 747!

Oh this brings back memories. I got this kit from my parents for my 11t birthday. Mine doesn't look nearly as good as yours and meanwhile it's missing some wheels, the decals cracked, the white became more and more yellowish over the time but I refuse to either get rid of it nor refurbish it. A small part of my personal history :) It now rests in a box on a shelf but it still exists :D

Absolutely!  I’m still at the beginner stage when it comes to modelling but I’m always going to keep the models I do as a visual history.

I have that one but it's not built. Looks like it makes a good desktop model.

It does.  I have the original Matchbox version to build but the stand is a nice inclusion with the Revell version.
