The Italeri kit is not the pre-production version, it is JAS 39A, the first version in service. However, this version was only used by Sweden, so the Swedish service markings are correct. The version used by Hungary, Czech Republic and Thailand (and South Africa and Sweden) is JAS 39C/D, that is slightly different, so that edition is the wrong kit for the export markings.

Quite right Bjorn! I have the Swedish version and here are the markings you get:

Not all the stencils or even aircraft numbers etc are there so yes it was a bit disappointing for me.

This kit is a waste of energy and material.

Pretty much! I had some dayglo numbers and Viggen stencils over so I'm GOING to do my best at 39131. I couldn't really believe such a new kit came with poor markings like that.

By some mistake we have a large amount of decals for JAS-39 Gripen 1/72, but we are missing the box. The original catalog numbers KPM0161 and KPM0162 – the boxed edition sold for 15.1,- Euro, is replaced by the catalog number SP1. The new package lacks the box, but in the plastic bag you can find both decals and colored camouflage. All this for a better price of 9.99 Euro.
