Modellrs, who like 1-48 scale - please don't worry, similar decal in you scale already in print, a little patience.

Apparently a new 1/48 decal sheet for the Ark kits is almost ready; my question is, for what kit is the 1/72 version intended? Maybe there's a new kit in the works that hasn't been announced yet? The existing ones are really not very good, nor are they easily obtained. I built the Siga one, years ago, and it was a lot of work, stealing parts from the old KP La-7 (prop, cowling face, landing gear struts) and redoing the landing gear doors and tailplanes from sheet plastic. Falcon does offer a vacuformed canopy in their 1/72 set 24, though!

Yep......I got the Cockpit 3D decals as an unadvertised extra in the kit I received from Russia last month. Very nice and up to the usual Quinta standard. Overall, a surprisingly nice kit too.

I don't think it's the vendors you need to worry about; it's more the messed-up transportation system. FWIW, I got mine from this guy:

Yes, I would second that.....I got mine from Ekatsmir (eventually)

I was willing to wait a bit longer, having already got my La-11 from that seller with no problem, but when I tried to use ebay's communication system to contact him, ebay for some unknown reason interpreted that as a refund request, so I got a refund, and I guess poor Ekatsmir got a black mark on his ebay soul or whatever, deserved or not. I went ahead and ordered the La-9 from another vendor; I'm still waiting to receive it.

Does anyone know the purpose of the corrected wing set for the La-11 offered on eBay?

No, but thanks for posting the link! Assuming you already have the La-11 kit, have you tried comparing the wing parts with the Arezin image?

FWIW, I tried the comparison I suggested, and now I'm puzzled. The Arezin parts are definitely different from the undersides of the Ark La-11 kit - could it be that Ark have included La-9 wing underside parts in both kits? La-9 drawings show the same details as the Ark La-11 wings. I haven't tried to infiltrate the scalemodels.ru forum to see if there's any discussion there; maybe I'll do that later. Meanwhile, here's a couple of La-11 walkarounds from there:

http://scalemodels.ru/modules/photo/viewcat_cid_395.html

http://walkarounds.scalemodels.ru/v/walkarounds/avia/before_1950/la-11/

Comparing the La-9 and La-11 drawings in the Begemot decals instruction sheets, I see definite differences:

http://begemotdecals.ru/doc/72-077 La-9(11) ins.pdf

Could Ark have made a mistake? Or were there early and late versions of the La-11 wings? The Ark La-11 wings match the La-9 drawings in the Polish monograph Wydawnictwo Militaria No. 311 - La-9; unfortunately I don't have any similar reference for the La-11. Now I suppose I'll have to try to find a back issue of the magazine Aviatsiya i Vremya with a feature article and drawings for the La-11 before I'll be able to let go of this... :drunk:

Hah! Here we go - a neat little how-to article:

https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://scalemodels.ru/news/15207-A-Resin-1-48-konsoli-kryla-la-11-dl-modeli-ARKmodels.html

My guess was seemingly correct - the Arezin parts represent a late La-11 wing underside. The Ark kit part is for an early La-11, apparently the same as the La-9. I have to be honest - it looks to me like the average modelbuilder could probably handle the conversion just by referring to the image of the Arezin parts in the link posted previously by 28ZComeback, assuming he/she even cared about it.

Begemot decals - ref 48-055 - are, as usual, excellent.

http://begemotdecals.ru/doc/48-055 La-9(11) ins.pdf
But I've a problem with the colour references:

- Flat Blue/Grey -  пФ-36or PF-36m = ?
- Flat Blue/Grey - А-33or A-33m =  ?
- Flat Khaki Green - А-24Г or A-24g = ?

- Flat Middle Grey - А-14 = AKAN - ref. 73040 or 340 - A-14 (faded) Steel Grey

Which model paint brands propose these references or close match/equivalent colours ?

Presumably AKAN.  If you prefer enamels try Colourcoats.

OK. Precise colour references in the AKAN or Colourcoats (or other brands) ranges would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I prefer acrylic or water based paints.

Have a browse through here; a Google session will probably find you a supplier closer to home:

https://www.lindenhillimports.com/store/c70/Rus_Acrylics_–_singles.html#/

ModelsUA in Ukraine is a good source price-wise, but right now he seems to be out of stock on a lot of Akan stuff.

These you can more easily find for yourself as these ranges quote the Russian reference codes for their paints.  You can also find them in the Hataka Red and Orange ranges.  I would assume the new Ammo range will include them but jusdging from comments on their other colours perhaps it is better to stick to the others.

There are (to me) good looking resin kits of the La 9 and La 11 from Steelworks.

They seem to go out of stock quite quickly, so there must be others who like the late Lavochins.

I spoke with a Norwegian warbird pilot who had flown one of these aircraft at Duxford, and he truly enjoyed it.

Steelworks shop https://shop.strato.de/epages/61299018.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61299018/Products/SK7215

The Steelworks site is in German, but the owner replies to Emails in English - I read German reasonably well, but struggle with writing it correctly.

Nicht auf Lager - means "not in stock" - it has nothing to do with beer...

Thanks, LN - I've actually bought from Steelwork a couple of times - La-7 corrected fuselage, some LaGG-3 accessories, and so on. He really does a good product, so I'm sorry I didn't grab at least a La-9 when they were available. I'll check again - maybe he'll restock it. Thanks again!
