Popular Post Booty003
Just finished another Academy F-8 Crusader. I absolutely love this mould, I would love to shake the designers hand and buy them a pint...! F-8E, VF-162 'The Hunters', USS Oriskany 1966, Task Force 77, Vietnam. Airbrushed with Tamiya acrylics (beautiful to work with), light wash with Flory grime and sealed with Xtracrylix flat varnish. I have used etch for the seat handles as the kit ones are overly thick. Etch for the seat straps too. I love this shot: Cheers gang. Phil 76

Dennis_C
Great work! Very nice Crusader here. And fully agree it's a top kit. One of the best I ever worked with.
Tbolt
Really nice F-8. The finish looks pretty flat, so I'm guessing the Xtracrylix varnish has improved, as I bought a bottle when it first came out and the finish is a satin with a noticeable sheen on it?
stevej60
Beautiful build and finish Phil.
Booty003
Thanks all. Junglie - try and pick up one of these if you can - will be so much better than the Hase version. In fact I just bought another Academy F-8 at the Bolton model show!!! 🙂 Yellow canopy seal is indeed kit supplied decal - there are decals for the main canopy as well but I like the look without these applied. Ralph
Great kit! What Tamiya paint ref did you use for the grey, out of interest, as have exactly this kit to do myself! Cheers R

Tyas
Academy's F-8 Crusaders are one of those kits that needs no introduction. Easily the best Crusader kits out there, on par with Hasegawa's 1/48th kit (similar breakdown, surprisingly). Really happy to see how nice you pulled it off, makes me want to add another F-8E alongside Richard Bellinger's MiG killer of VF-162.
72modeler
What the others have said needs no duplication- a 4.0 job on the Academy kit. I really like the restraint on the weathering and panel lines. Well done! Mike
stevehnz
That looks magic Phil, kit scheme too, I can see one of these in my future, maybe another even though I've a couple in stock, both with Shamrocks markings, one of which for a VF-84 F-8C conversion.
