neil5208
Been unusually busy last week or so but got some work done last night, Took the large 12" file to the tank to remove the large step and re-scribed the lost panel lines. Looks ok but we'll see after some primer, the fuselage wasn't has bad but will be done in stages. Also just picked up the Hasegawa weapon set for the 4 Mk84's I need for the Bullseye aircraft, apparently all tests were done with live ordanance Edited February 16, 2020 by neil5208 added picture
neil5208
I had some paint in the airbrush last night so gave the tank a quick spray to check work so far. 1st side good. 2nd side no so good.
neil5208
Some more sanding and re-scribing on the Hustler tonight, nearly done just the big step on the tail to take care of. The underside need a lot of filler but should be ok as the tank will be covering most of it. The Italeri plastic is quite hard but sands and scribes well. Also got the nose on tonight.
neil5208
Fuel tank has had its fins and nose fitted once I was happy with the seams, I hope to have some primer on soon. The crew have had some more work, I need to figure out how much can be seen of the 2 back seater's to se how much more they need. Lastly I made up one of the wings and tested fitted. Starting to look like a supersonic aircraft. Edited February 23, 2020 by neil5208

billn53
I've found that Future / Klear / whatever its name is, thinned about 4:1 with Mr Color Leveling thinner (I see some in your photo's background) gives a good clear finish. I used it on my recent Zoukei-Mura Phantom build.
neil5208
Rear crew man have been trimmed and fitted into their respective seats minus feet only! but as Bill predicted you wont see much of them one the roof hatches go on. Made up the second wing and had a test fit on the acrylic rod to see if I got the balance point right, its a little tail heavy but one its mounted into a wooden plinth it shouldn't be an issue. I will have a bench tidy later but now the dogs are looking at me for their walk.
neil5208
As stated on my Harrier WIP, been quite busy but got some work done tonight, as this will be in flight started to fit the under carriage doors but Italeri never design them to be closed so they don't quite meet up. Front under carriage doors where twisted along both planes so gradually fixing a small part and working my way around. Main undercarriage strut before and after, this part is needed to act as a support to attach the 4 doors. Once this has set I can attach the remaining 3 doors Edited March 3, 2020 by neil5208
neil5208
Had a long lunch break at work yesterday and did some work on the stand for the Hustler. 18mm MDF cut to shape with a jigsaw, I'll do some relief cuts around the lettering before painting.
neil5208
So small update, fan faces sprayed so I can build engines. Pilot has been fitted and the rear crew hatches fitted. The front undercarriage is now glue all the way round but the front edge needed a strip of plasiticard to fill the gap. Another round of sanding and filling for this part. Tail RWR and rear gun fitted. This is the mess I have to work with on the main under carriage doors. 3
neil5208
Did some work on the base today, sprayed with rattle can cherry red. Yet to decide if I spray the white rings or use vinyl sheet. Edited March 10, 2020 by neil5208

Alan P
Excellent job with the gear doors, that would have scared me right off 👍
neil5208
Only managed to do some work on the base this week, I'll get some black vinyl for the lettering ordered.
neil5208
The 2 engines built have been sanded and primed, won't be using the resin tail pipes on this one so back to ebay. Same for the port wing and front under carriage, a bit sanding needed. Masked the canopy and sprayed the inside colour on the frames.
neil5208
As the wife has been watching Beaches and First Wife's Club I had some modelling time this afternoon so I test fit the bomb racks and mk84's, they look small! The mk84''s were originally for an A6 but that still in the box hence half painted. Bomb racks do a good job of covering the terrible wing joint on the underside but the top side will need some major filling. Jet nozzles and mk84 painted. If you think the wing joints are bad, wait ‘till you get to the engine pylons.

I think I'll do the same thing with the engines you did Bill, paint individually and then fix to the wing and fill.
Space Ranger
Those decals and tech order notwithstanding, the legend of the SEA camouflaged B-58 is exactly that: a legend. No documentary evidence of an actual B-58 painted in that scheme has ever been found.
