neil5208
Now I have the Beaufighter finished I am starting this one, been after one since Billin's great build last year and ebay came up with this for £20. It will be done as the fabled Project Bullseye test aircraft in SEA over black camo with 4 mk84's on the underside pylons. I haven't decided if this should be an in flight build or not yet, if so I'll need some crew. Should be fun! billn53
If in-flight, you’ll need only a pilot. The others won’t be visible through the tiny side windows.

neil5208
Thanks Bill, very interesting viewing. I forgot to mention I had got the Aires resin jet tail pipe kit, also for a steal of ebay so I quickly compared to the kits jet exhaust pipe. And I've found a volunteer if I decide to go for in-flight finish., he a bit tall for the seat atm but that easily sorted.

Vladan Dugaric
Be advised that B-58 had early 24-petal nozzle with long petals. F-4A/B/C/D/N had early 24-petal nozzle with short petals. F-4E/F/J/S/EJ had late 16-petal nozzle with long petals. Nozzle in your photo is late F-4 16-petal model. Neither of the two Aires (early/late) exhausts is accurate for B-58. Italeri kit nozzle has 20 petals, which is also incorrect. neil5208
Small update, Bill has been kind enough to let me have the remaining Caracal decals from his B58 build so I now have the correct decals for the Op Bullseye aircraft, also got hold of some 8mm acrylic rod as I decided to go for an in=flight build,.

neil5208
Last night I started on the rod and fuel tank, the rod had a square profile sanded into it and the tank had a 10mm hole drilled, I will made a plastic form inside the tank for the rod to fit into so I can remove for transportation and storage. Also found another 2 pilot figures so I need to get them painted., I have sprayed the cockpit and seat but they will need some more detail painted on as well. Robert
Good start there Neil. You will need a copy of the T.O as well https://www.cybermodeler.com/aircraft/b-58/b-58_profile02.shtml Regards Robert
billn53
I recommend when you install the tank to the fuselage that you add some metal pins for strength. You don’t want your tank coming loose if that’s where the stand attaches. Also, I’m disappointed you don’t have a bear in your crew. After all, only you would know 😜 Edited January 31, 2020 by Mike Removing photo quote

After all, only you would know 😜 Hi Bill, I've just removed two unnecessary photo quotes from your last couple of posts, as they weren't really needed. While they don't do any real harm, they do make threads disjointed and adds unnecessary scrolling to the thread, so we often get complaints about them. If you could be careful about this sort of thing in future, it would be appreciated by all If you need to discuss it further, please either PM a Mod, or start a thread in Help & Support rather than talk about it here

neil5208
Been busy this weekend but managed to create the stand mount within the fuel tank, unlike the SR71 when I made a multi layer block this time I built around the rod, I put some more filler around the card before joining the fuel tank halves.
neil5208
I've painted some knobs and switches in each of the cockpits rather than leave it all grey, I know its not accurate but as its going to be closed up not much will be seen. Started joining the fuselage together and found out why Bill had so much trouble on his build, every seam has a slight twist to it so aligning is a bit fiddly. Just the bottom seam has been glued, once dry I'll start on the top seam. Must remember to stick the rear cockpit glazing in Edited February 3, 2020 by neil5208
neil5208
Glueing the fuselage is now complete, as with Bill's build I have some significant seams to sort on both the fuel/weapons pod and fuselage. Also there is a thickness difference on the vertical stabiliser to deal with as well. I have started to paint the crew but it will be a while before I need to fit judging by the amount of sanding to do. And the tank, this side is good This side is poor. 1
billn53
I feel your pain over those seams. But, they can be defeated!
