A long over due update on this one, I was distracted by other builds.

So I added the last antennas on the underside as well as the strakes under the rear fuselage and the pilots boarding ladder

Some doors were also scribed.

and some primer thrown on

I was waiting for a comment about the floats, They are left over from the my failed attempt at the last float planes GB, trying to clear a lot of stalled builds at the moment.

With the BM GBs and others elsewhere including club Blitzes and theme builds my bench becomes quite hectic at times, fortunately I got the Navy GB items finished quickly and can get back to these VERY IMPORTANT Nordic builds :D

No worries @Col.

I have lot more distractions, with the C-17 being pulled out of hibernation for a comparison shoot, I might just take my Dornier and PC-21 and and stow them in the cargo hold for the time being while I finish it off ! :D

Gloss white applied and some stretched sprue added to the flaps ( as per the Dornier -200 instructions I have), it's not mentioned in the instructions for the -100.

Both Nordic builds ready for masking and paint

Just ignore him...he's still upset I won't build the Draken! :tease: The Spitfire are done, the F/A-18E almost, the Rafale M in progress...plus now I'm starting to pack up ready to move!

.......and yes the Nordic Builds ARE the most important things in your life now! :fight:

At this rate you're going to have nothing remaining in your stash apart from this mythical Draken none of us have seen.

Hello Ray🙂

I just found this "Nordic GB 2020". I was more than delighted to see your great work on the "Donnerwetter" as we called her. One of those surprising aircraft: fabric covered elevators, rudder and ailerons, capable of flying slower than a SE Cessna and then +200 kt. TAS. Powered with slightly tricky Garret engines and so on. Did a barrel roll with her too, but don't tell anyone...

It's a shame really that I got here so late, as I could have provided you with photos of the interior, drawings about the special equipment and so on. If you need something, just ask and I will check whether I have suitable photos or other information.

Stay Safe!

Cheers,

Antti

Thanks for the offer Antti. I was curios about the the interior, I could not find much detail on the web.

I am about to mask up the green and orange, I hope to get it finished soon.

You are welcome Ray🙂

Cockpit overall colour is chocolate brown (Humbrol 10 is very close). The reason for such colour was pretty practical as Air Patrol Squadron wanted as dark colour as possible to eliminate reflections especially at night. The cabin's overall colour is off-white with dark blue-green carpet and seat upholstery. Radar/camera operators console is just behind LH pilot's seat, facing forwards. Behind that is a small table with club seating. IR/UV sensor console is located at the back on Starboard side. Also facing forwards. A very nasty seat to occupy during maneuvering as one sits so far behind the CoG.

I noticed that your model represents the current outfit with tubular SLAR antennas. For a reason or another the interior has been a bit of a "hush-hush"; possibly due to trade agreements. At least the radar was terrible 25 years ago and the guys told me that it hasn't got much better. The current cameras on the other hand are simply amazing.

Let me dig few photos for you about the interior.

Cheers,

Antti

Here we go...

Pilot's cockpit. Note that the floor is painted only with buff coloured primer.

Yours Truly manning the navigator station (possibly in 1996). That mouse was lost on the same flight when we were forced to maneuver; a Russian patrol boat started to act aggressively on the Finnish Gulf and we broke away "in a spectacular way". That poor mouse flew to back of the cabin and shattered into pieces. We arranced proper military funerals for the poor mouse behind the hangar; I carried my sword and all...

spacer.png

Once again I was forced to steal my own photo. This is the current lay-out of the navigator's (radar) station. That yellow bag barely visible at the right hand lower corner is the life raft package that is always carried.

The IR/UV sensor operator console at the back of the cabin.

Cabin, looking forward

On finals to Turku airport (our base)

Sometimes the view wasn't equally clear. Despite the warmed wind shield pretty heavy icing was encountered time to time.

It got really scary only after the landing

This is slightly of-topic but too interesting to miss. First female fighter pilot in Finnish AF, captain Inka Niskanen, made few practice intercepts and then escorted us for a while over the Baltic Sea.

spacer.png

And we saw other interesting stuff too: like this modified "Kilo" -class submarine sailing out of St. Peterburg. It was delivered to Pakistan.

Here you can see the old box-like SLAR antenna. During hot summer days the Baltic Sea can look uninviting, especially when blue-green algae fills the water. One of the monitoring tasks for the Air Patrol Squadron.

Antti

Thank you both Ray and Rich🙂 It is always nice if one can help fellow modelers with something. And it is of course nice to hear that people like your models, so thanks again.

Cheers,

Antti

you'll have to join us for part 2 of this GB! :D

After a bit of masking and painting it is slowly getting there, though I am not happy with the way it looks, some touch ups are required after a lot of bleeding under the masking occurred.
